Dianne...we wouldn't have this pleasurable experience if this were a cd. Looking forward to see you in about a years time

@ausmanx: Good morning (evening in OZ). I don't suppose in your sub-titling past you had "Twin Peaks" as a job?
How's mid-spring there, OK?
Avatar 7:13am
ausmanx:

very nice, really, thanks Sem. never worked on TP, but still see it as high water mark of TV (along with Dennis Potter's THE SINGING DETECTIVE). they shall never be surpassed... things getting colder there? i'm heading to Northern hemisphere in January. i like cold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18am
Sem Chumbo:

@ausmanx: have to agree with your assesment of The Singing Detective, astonished it ever made it to air.
On the weather front, had our first hard frost and the trees are pretty much leaf-less now. Cold is fine, our ancestors got here, stayed the winter and decided: "Yep, -20C just fine, let's stay!" :-o

Happy US election day. Vote even if you aren't from the US. Vote at least twice.

Hi everybody !
...You always deliver MartyM.

- In the U.S. - please Vote !
...It's a numbers game - so just show up a few minutes & mark a ballot - okay? We need it. - Thanks a lot.

@duke: Voter suppression (Voter I.D. restrictions - district gerrymandering, &tc. ...) ! What Voter fraud? Essentially: There is none. Do anything to keep people of color &/or the poor from Voting (&/or, where I am - to keep Students @ University from qualifying as Eligible Citizens). This is an assault on the very most basic Right in a Democracy - to participate & be represented. & - guess by whom (which Party) ?

- Yeah - I love the Spirit of a lot of this Arabian (?) stuff ! Why must we misunderstand each other so...
Avatar 7:39am
ausmanx:

elections are the figleaf of the corporate class and the main mechanism for duping the masses that they actually have a say. a gun-toting Democrat? what are we choosing between? smash the polling booths, i reckon
Avatar 7:45am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@ausmanx: There are levels of illusion & participation. Every means must employed. I don't believe marking a piece of paper every 2 or 4 years alone will create Utopia as I conceive it - but I do ask that people do @ least this ! Voting for 'the Lesser of Two Evils' has become a catchphrase for dismissing any participation & becoming entirely Apathetic - in the supposedly 'Greatest Democracy' & the most powerful & supposedly 'Free' Nation that has ever been (the U.S.A.).
- But I say: if you acknowledge it *is* the *Lesser* of Two Evils - why *wouldn't* you want the Lesser of them - ?!? ...: Who's the blind Idealist - & who sees the RealPolitik *now* - ?!?...
- Vote !
Avatar 7:45am
duke:

@RRN63 I joke about voting twice, but I vote in every election and take it seriously. In NY we don't need voter IDs, my district is gerrymandered so that it's controlled by one party. A few miles over the district is designed to be controlled by the other party.
Avatar 7:47am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Politics is where Idealism meets the Game of Power. It's ugly & it stinks. Yeah - you gotta hold your nose when you Vote. Do it anyway. It's quick. & then we'll go from there...
Avatar 7:58am
ausmanx:

if you vote, you are endorsing your government's lies that it is "democratic", under the guise of which the people allow them to commit the most appalling crimes. not voting is not apathy. voting is playing THEIR game. almost ANY other method of expressing your opinion is preferable.

Damn, I missed the Celtic Frost and Bathory joints!
Avatar 🥊 8:06am
PKNY:

@ausmanx - to be fair, if voting was playing 'their' game, then there wouldn't be such a concerted effort to keep certain subsets of people from voting. The goal is to make the votes of others to count more by discounting others.
Avatar 8:07am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@ausmanx: Would you say Gore would have been no different than Duhbya? Romney no dif from Obama? - to say nothing of Congressional Reps & local measures...Even now, I'm not prepared to say Voting makes no difference! They want you - & me - most of all to think it doesn't & stay away
...& let's use all those other methods *too* - both !!...
Avatar 8:08am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- this will be a close one (a long night) all over the U.S. - & no less than the Senate is @ stake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10am

Thanks for this morning, got a cut it short. See ya later, Marty, and all.
Avatar 8:11am
ausmanx:

yep, i'm saying there is absolutely no substantial difference. even Dubya didn't have weekly targeted assassination meetings. that's an Obama invention. and Obamacare is an abomination which is lining the pockets of shareholders of private insurance companies. and Gore, he's just been over here endorsing the "climate policy" of a coal-mining billionaire
Avatar 🥊 8:15am
PKNY:

@ausmanx - don't want to get too deep into this, but you have to admit that the makeup of the SCOTUS would be a lot different if we had elected McCain. That is something that just can't be brushed away. But I hear what your'e saying, every election is always a matter of picking the 'least worst' candidate. But still no reason to do it, only took 5 minutes out of my day this morning.

Now back to regular programming: a friend of mine gave me a copy of this Mr. T record. She saw it at a library sale, and said " as soon as I saw it, I thought of you".

T's mismatched socks game is TIGHT.
Avatar 8:19am
ausmanx:

voting just condones the whole "least worst" syndrome. why does everyone seem to think that's okay? and why don't people want to get "too deep into it". unless we do, it's consume, be silent, die.
Avatar 8:22am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- Obama is Commander in Chief & has to keep us safe - however AntiWar we may be: he's done a great job of it - whilst keeping us out of major-scale unilateral Conflicts - & ending Torture & the Secret Prisons. & I say this as someone who is utterly frustrated w/ the Average American's ignorance of our involvement in Civil Wars everywhere over long periods - & their willful refusal to learn about it.
- Health Care in the U.S. is fully 1/6th of our total Economy & a complete clusterf*ck - it is thru the Employer in the U.S. only becuase it was set up that way in WWII !: the fact that Obama gambled his entire Career on doing *anything* to change it here shows gigantic cajones. What is the Opposition's solution? To do nothing - opposition everything - & deny HealthCare as a Right by any means they can !!
- Gore has done more to show & prove the Reality of Climate Change than anyone - even if was a total fink! People use Energy: there is no utterly simple Practical answer. To say he would've been no dif or better than those two terms of Duhbya is reaching pretty far...

Avatar 8:48am
ausmanx:

hmm, well most Americans don't seem to feel safe if the hysteria over ISIS is any indication, and the foreign policy in Syria and the drone campaigns have done a lot to accomplish that. Obama, like all other presidents, knows that fear is the way to keep the Pentagon budget up, and he's done a manful job with that. the EU had a comprehensive climate change policy if America had supported it, and if Gore had done such a great job, why is Keystone still even on the agenda? oh, and the secret prisons are still there, by the way, despite his election promises. not to mention the explosion in the not-so-secret prisons, which see higher incarceration rates there than in China. roll on democracy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am

went to vote this morning and walked in the wrong door - i guess - and set off a bunch of alarms. hiiii-larious.
Avatar 8:53am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Syria is a four-way Civil War. Instead of getting in Unilaterally (Duhbya stylee) - Obama went to the Congress & the U.N. about Assad. They voted him down. I agree about Keystone. If Romney were Pres &/or the Congress in complete Republican control - what do you think would be happening there? Where would you put dangerous terrorists in U.S. custody? Other countries won't even take them...
