The gif might be by Seb Agudelo but the Internet is rather confusing today.

Yes. Yes it is confusing.

Your WFMU forecast calls for 20% chance of a cut by Mostly Other People Do The Killing.

Kurt Gottschalk:

steve, i don't know how long he's been playing jazz but he's very involved with the rare noise label (which is relatively new). he's on a lot of those releases.

I have a story about seeing Wadada Leo Smith many years ago. I would love to tell it but it's too long and would just come across as irrelevant.
Avatar 3:32pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

tell it! no one else is posting.
  3:36pm
Dean:

Hum-de-dum...hum-de dum... I sure would love to hear an irrelevant Wadada Leo Smith story right about now...
  3:38pm
rw:

Okay, okay....Went with my friend Vito to see him perform at a place called the Jazz Bakery in LA. I didn't know of him but the description sounded interesting. We got lost on the way and almost bailed. There were maybe five other people in the audience. WLS had six other players with him. Really good show. Afterward we were saying we were glad we went, not only because it was a good show, but because if we hadn't there would have been more performers than audience.
  3:39pm
rw:

Whew.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm
ironybread:

Thank you RW. Neither irrelevant nor too long.
  3:39pm
Dean:

This was the old Jazz Bakery at the Helms Bakery building? Love that place. Heard Steve Lacy there, Max Roach, Alan Broadbent. Would love to have heard WLS.
Avatar 3:41pm
steve:

thanks Kurt, ill be checking that label out.
  3:41pm
rw:

Dean, yes. I think it was the second location within the Bakery. First one was in a photo studio. Second one was a dedicated performance space. I don't know if they're still there. I have a feeling they've moved.
  3:42pm
Dean:

I'm no longer in LA, but I know they have moved to nicer digs. The old place was great, though. Kinda funky, folding chairs, not unlike McCabe's Guitar Shop on Santa Monica Blvd.
  3:46pm
P-90:

Little bit of Fontiere's Outer Limits music mixed in back there. Hi Dr. Gottschalk and Minatourists.
  3:48pm
rw:

And yeah, Jazz Bakery was cool. Maybe still is but I rarely get out. Would have loved to have seen Lacy there! My McCabe's story... Saw somebody there... can't remember who, but Bjork was in the audience. She was not so famous back then. I had to laugh because even though she wasn't performing she was wearing her hair in those ridiculous buns.
Avatar 3:55pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

thanks rw, i'll get back to this in a second.

this bed music!

I've heard Jonathan Richman at McCabe's, and Steve Lacy with Roswell Rudd.

Kurt Gottschalk:

rw, your story reminded me of seeing william parker's big band (the little huey creative music orchestra) some years back. william started to introduce the band at the end of the show and pianist cooper-moore said "what? there's more of them then there are of us, they should introduce themselves to us!" so we went through the audience one by one and told the band our names.
  4:06pm
rw:

Ha! Good story! Did the band reciprocate?
  4:07pm
rw:

I mean, did they finish introducing themselves?
Avatar 4:08pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

nope, i think it was pretty clear we knew who they were.
