@Canterbury - yeah, that track was great. Johnny Greenwood channeling Can. Also enjoyed the film a lot, although the person I saw it with (who hadn't read the book) said they were pretty baffled and basically didn't understand anything that had happened.

I have no idea what I'd have thought of Inherent Vice if I wasn't already a Pynchon freak. I might have enjoyed the disorientation. I suppose I'll never know (unless I suffer amnesia at some point in the future and see it again).

Bleeding Edge would be an interesting challenge for any filmmaker...

Read Bleeding Age in February. A Pynchon fan on these boards, familiar with his entire output, found it the most accessible of all his work. Pretty dense going, I'd say.

I have read Lot 49 and started Gravity's Rainbow 12x. I did not read Inherent Vice but loved the movie, felt like a Pynchon book reads to me.

I must admit, reading both Inherent Vice and Bleeding Edge after all his earlier works, I was initially disappointed at the accessibility levels (maybe just a kind of snobbish exclusionary instinct - just felt a bit lightweight), but before long was completely won over. TP has worked out how to achieve what he wants in a simpler, but no-less-effective way. Quite an achievement.

It sounds like you have a torn ACL, not an MCL. The ACL is on the inside and will need to be fixed. I tore both and know that pain on the inside, it sounds like it might be repairable - My needed replacement. Good luck+

@Canterbury - I agree. One thing I've always enjoyed about Pynchon, which came through as well in Bleeding Edge I think, is how well he understands and plays with scientific/mathematical/technical ideas - I don't think there's any writer who does that better.

Absolutely. I've got a PhD in mathematics, so I can tell when an author is faking that kind of stuff. He can write about differential equations or the entropic aspects of number theory in a way which is both beautifully poetic and totally accurate! I can see why some people started to think "Thomas Pynchon" was the front for some kind of cabal of writers - no one person should be able to know all this stuff!

damn, I didn't even finish college. Hope I'm still welcome here. I did read Crying of Lot 49, which at the time, I thought I got, but in retrospect, I think I have no idea what that book was about. Looking forward to watching Inherent Vice, though I just dropped my netflix DVD plan, so it might be a while.
