I'm cooking Portuguese/Greek fusion for supper. Got any Portuguese/Greek Fusion music to go with it?

That's a tall order.

@P-90: That echo may go on forever.
  9:13pm
P-90:

@pss: what's the "Portugese/Greek fusion" menu? Can't drop one like that and not make me curious...

Apparently there is a Portuguese fusion band called Dead Combo. And thank Christ, they don't play Dead music.

Sorry, P-90, checking the food. It's roasted potatoes and linguica in tomato sauce with kalamata olives and sheep cheese. Both cultures have some version of it.

This tune can almost be Portuguese/Greek, if you squint.

Dave, I didn't have a chance to comment on the fantastic ESP Records special show last week. Really enjoyed it.
Avatar 9:38pm
Dave Mandl:

@George: Thanks!

P-90:

The ESP special WAS first-rate. One of those really worthy things you probably couldn't hope to hear anywhere else.
Avatar 9:41pm
Dave Mandl:

@P-90: Thanks. It got a really good response, which Steve should probably get credit for.

Dave, there is a recently-published book that I guess attempts to interpret Kew. Rhone. I haven't picked it up yet, but I'm very tempted.
Avatar 10:09pm
Dave Mandl:

Ha. Probably worth checking out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
pacific standard simon:

Speaking of "excited strings", it is possible to buy a "personal massager" that can be controlled by the beat and rhythm of your mp3 player.
  10:16pm
Barr Bee:

The truth is in the >2%. WoE is my show!
Avatar 10:18pm

@pss: If I knew I probably wouldn't admit it. (But I have no idea.)
Avatar 10:18pm
Dave Mandl:

@Barr: Merci beaucoup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
pacific standard simon:

That was a statement, not a question, Dave. They really exist. But I was looking for links to music by people who make music using "personal massagers" to caress the strings of instruments -- sort of a John Cage/Godley & Creme kind of thing. No luck yet.
  10:23pm
Carmichael:

Who is playing trumpet here? There is a bet involved.
  10:23pm
trs:

It'd be the same as the robot-tech that attempts to play music. More algorithm than rhythm.

I've only seen personal massagers used on mics and pick-ups
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Andrew Waterloo:

@Carmichael, I was thinking the same thing.
Avatar 10:24pm
Dave Mandl:

@pss: Oops, sorry. I read that as "Is it possible?" Too much multitasking going on here.
Avatar 10:24pm
Dave Mandl:

@Carmichael: Lee Morgan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
Andrew Waterloo:

From the Internet: "Confirmation" matches Smith with altoist Lou Donaldson, tenor saxophonist Tina Brooks, trumpeter Lee Morgan, guitarist Kenny Burrell, and drummer Art Blakey, while a 15-minute rendition of "What Is This Thing Called Love" and a 20-minute "Cherokee" have Morgan, Burrell, Blakey, trombonist Curtis Fuller, and George Coleman on alto.

There's a family heirloom foot-pump organ in my bedroom. I don't think it works. Looks cool, though.

'magnetophonic'
The long 'e' gives some kinda cachet, eh?
Avatar 11:04pm

'Magnetic tape' - with the short 'e' - is so base, these days, by comparison.

But pronunciation often changes when you add prefixes and suffixes.

"Are you a man?...Are you a fish?" Isn't that from that old Peter Weir aussie film "The Last Wave"?

Ever see '32 short films about Glenn Gould' ? Great movie as I recall
  11:32pm
greyhoos:

@ PMD: As I recall, too. But it's been about 2 decades. More recently, was mystified by some of the audio "travelogues" & such that he for the CBC. "The Idea of North," "The Search for Petula Clark," et al.

Yes It's great. And 'The Red Violin' is another excellent one. Same director I think?
