I've met Amy R. a few times, always at the Thunderbolt Pub in Bristol, where she has played w/ Wreckless Eric numerous times. I always am totally starstruck and awkward and mismanage communication on every level!! I then even more awkwardly foist some art-project/product ive made towards her...but she is always very gracious about it though! She is a total genius-songwriter, i can never understand why she isnt a huge star/millionaire...

Indeed. Spent a long spell with him in our tasting room. He spoke of you with great admiration.

DG:

Nice to hear Nick Lowe, but I don't think Bobby Irwin played on that song. Looks like the last NL album he played on was "Pinker & Prouder..." & that song was from "The Impossible Bird" a few years later.
Avatar 12:28pm
Michael Shelley:

I'm pretty sure it is him - he also went by the name Robert Trehern

thanks Baby, that's very nice to hear
Avatar 12:33pm
Michael Shelley:

Than you David!
  12:35pm
DG:

Sorry, Michael....had NO idea it was the same guy! Why'd he change his name? Between him & Billy Bremner/Murray, it's hard to keep NL bandmembers straight.
Avatar 12:36pm
Michael Shelley:

Nick used to tell a funny story when introducing him on stage - that involved the selling of drugs - which may explain his many names...

very sad about Bobby Irwin RIP:<
super empathetic drummer
great guy offstage also
was Carlene Carter's drummer
on her 2007 European tour
  12:40pm
scott:

As far as I know Bobbi Irwin/Treherne is the only drummer Nick worked with post-Rockpile. Can't remember if I ever knew the story behind why he couldn't use his real name, but I do remember a few years ago, Nick happily announced that he could introduce him as Bobbi Irwin again. Nice guy and a subtle groove master.
  12:43pm
scott:

That sounds familiar, MS. I seem to remember that it was a legal issue that prevented him from legally entering the country. I assume that when he toured with Nick in recent years, he must have entered via Canada or something.
  12:45pm
scott:

Also, I seem to remember that Billy Bremner's "B. Murray" songwriting credits were a matter of waiting out an old publishing contract.
  12:45pm
DG:

Thanks for all the info on BI, fellow commenters. I'm sure that I saw him a few times over the years, including a great Lowe show at the Wetlands (RIP) in '94 or so.
