'had a good conversation with some indonesian women last week. they helped me (a little) with identifying what's what on my tape cases from indonesia, regarding what is the artist; the title; the type of music; the region.

	♥ 10:49am coelacanth: Hi Doug! -me too Jeff; and these ladies couldn't help that much,though i appreciate them trying. not too many people in indonesia listen to gamelan any more. i get the impression it's like Bach (except that there's still a public ritual of it-am & pm)...just a few older people care about it,generally. these tapes i showed these women (in their 20s-30s) were pretty foreign to them; but they could read the print,which helped a bit. ...and there was no artist listed on the ones i brought to them. it's just "the people of the village".

	11:10am Dean: 1750 Arch was Tom Buckner's label. The building now houses the Berkeley's CNMAT, which offers pretty cool programming during the year. Mapleshade is generally hi-fi, yes. Reliably so, I'd say, is CIMP. Marc Rusch is a master. As is Kavi Alexander at Water Lily Acoustics.

'had a good conversation with some indonesian women last week. they helped me (a little) with identifying what's what on my tape cases from indonesia, regarding what is the artist; the title; the type of music; the region.

	♥ 10:49am coelacanth: Hi Doug! -me too Jeff; and these ladies couldn't help that much,though i appreciate them trying. not too many people in indonesia listen to gamelan any more. i get the impression it's like Bach (except that there's still a public ritual of it-am & pm)...just a few older people care about it,generally. these tapes i showed these women (in their 20s-30s) were pretty foreign to them; but they could read the print,which helped a bit. ...and there was no artist listed on the ones i brought to them. it's just "the people of the village".

	11:10am Dean: 1750 Arch was Tom Buckner's label. The building now houses the Berkeley's CNMAT, which offers pretty cool programming during the year. Mapleshade is generally hi-fi, yes. Reliably so, I'd say, is CIMP. Marc Rusch is a master. As is Kavi Alexander at Water Lily Acoustics.
