I heard somewhere that Ms. Ullman gets really cranky when people bring up The Simpsons.

"I Can't Believe It's the Best Day of My Life" is the best song I've heard all day! Thanks Irwin

Good to hear your voice and this show, Irwin, i'm into my second week laid up after leg surgery, alone in the apt, everyone I know out of town, FMU has been an inavaluable companion. And it's a Joe Frank Day too!

@Jeff: I wonder if that's true about Tracey Ullman re: Simpsons. Curious to know what that's about exactly...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
Irwin:

P-90: Sorry to hear of your impairment. What's the prognosis?
Avatar 3:56pm
Jeff:

If true, the potential reason seems clear: she was the headliner of a funny comedy/variety show; there was a bizarre interstitial cartoon; now practically nobody remembers her show, but they always want to talk about the freakin' Simpsons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm
Mike East:

@P90- I would guess its because she didn't really have much if anything to do with the production of the cartoon shorts, and would prefer to talk about things that she has done herself. That's a total guess though. you'd have to ask her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm
Mike East:

you should definitely bring it up if you ever run into her.
  3:57pm
P-90:

I'll be gradually getting up and strarting to walk a little over the next few weeks, nothing permanent (I think!), thanks for asking.
  4:00pm
P-90:

@Jeff and Mike: well those are the obvious guesses; I wonder if she's ever been more specific about this herself?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
chris:

i would buy Jeff's explanation... i, for one, remember the Tracy Ullman show, and i was delighted to hear her here (after so many years)

P-90:

Thanks for the well wishes, all.
When Joe is in his most expansive narrative mode, as here, I sometimes find him strongly reminiscent of William Burroughs or, maybe even more so, the English Science Fiction author JG Ballard. Anyone else get that, or similar?
  4:27pm
JakeGould:

As much as I like Joe Frank, the sound quality on these latest shows is pretty bad. I seem that works in progress? But otherwise that sounds like an eBay bootleg MP3.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
Mike East:

@P90 - I can see the Burroughs connection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
Irwin:

Jake: This one's particularly low-fi. It's an early show and we didn't have a better audio transfer. I'll do more conscientious QC in the future.

P-90:

Oh? "A-A-D-D?" Joe's shows have always had great sound, if that one was just from a bad dupe, that explains the conspicuous low-fi quality. Enjoyed the show, though. It's a good example of that "Joe style period".
