El Habib Louai sings Alan Ginsberg and Amiri Baraka in Arabic, plus lots more

Hear this show now: Pop-up listen Pop-up player! | Add or read comments

Moroccan Berber poet, scholar, translator and teacher El Habib Louai was inspired to write by the Beat Poets, who famously were inspired by travels to his home country. His love is not unrequited: Habib recently won a scholarship to the Naropa Institute's Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics - which was founded by Beat Poets Allen Ginsberg, Anne Waldman, Diane di Prima and kindred spirit John Cage.

El Habib Louai's work includes translating poetry from English into the Berber language of his home region in southern Morocco, as well as into Classical Arabic. He joins us along with a couple of musical fellow travelers for Arabic-language musical interpretations of poems by Ginsberg and Amiri Baraka as well as Berber sung-poetry and lots more.

Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 8:49pm Jason:

European timezone listener, so normally dip into your show on the archive, but late one tonight so hearing you live, much appreciate all your work on your shows Rob
