Awesome cut

You know it's summer when parking spots abound on my street in Hoboken even on a Saturday night. So I can understand the comments board being a bit quiet!

Ha. Thanks, Rob.

Good morning Mike! A delightful surprise, now I wish I had turned on the radio earlier. Proof that household chores should always be postponed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34am
Rob W:

Household chores should always be canceled!

Mike VL:

Hi there, Joe. It's Bernard Fevre - track called Pendulum. When I did a weekly show it was my bed music. Glad you like it!
  7:40am
joe!:

i'll be checking out more of his stuff-thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40am
fred:

@Rob: I take that as a ringing endorsement of being (even more of) a slob from now on
Avatar 7:43am
Mike VL:

Joe- Great! He did a lot of library music and his stuff shouldn't be too tough to locate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45am

@Mike: great to hear you, it's been too long. February, really? Man, I'm not the only one here that should make more room for WFMU
Avatar 7:45am
Mike VL:

I had a stack of 45s I left at home! This is what happens when you get up at 3 am to head to FMU.
Avatar 7:47am
Mike VL:

Fred- I know, I know. Well, despite my absence, I really appreciate that you always manage to say "hello".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55am
fred:

I can't think of a better reason to get up at 3am on a Sunday than going to the station. In fact, I can't think of any other reason
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00am
Rob W:

Speaking of Angolan music, Paulo Flores just played a buoyant show at NY's Le Poisson Rouge, the first show anyone can remember by an Angolan artist in NY. Though Paulo and his excellent band's esthetic, tuned to contemporary Lusophone tastes, is not as groovy, we heard rhythms very similar to the vintage Jovens de Prenda track. Actually Paulo Flores' brilliant guitarist Teddy Nsingi is an oldster - he may be on some of those vintage Angolan tracks that have turned up on comps in recent years, I will have to look into that!

@Rob: I hope things are better in the USA, but this year here in France has been brutal in terms of getting visas for musicians. Still random, but more canceled shows than usual, it seems

Mike, do you have some info about that Ata Kak track? I don't know whether I like it or not, but it's arresting
Avatar 8:20am
Mike VL:

Fred - Should give some more info. www.factmag.com...
Avatar 8:21am

It's on Awesome Tapes from Africa. Brian Shimkovitz who does the blog also did a Listener Hour here at the station a few years back too.

re: Fevre, Cosmos 2043 looks like a good buy if only for the album art--nothing but disco Star Wars. Glad i tuned in.
Avatar 8:29am

Joe! - Yeah, that's a great cover. "The Strange World Of..." is also one worth checking out. Glad you tuned in too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31am
fred:

@Mike: this is a great story (re: Ata Kak). And Awesome Tapes from Africa is definitely worth the "awesome" label. I heard him do a DJ set twice; not my thing but each time he threw in a few tracks that had me wondering what had just happened

Fascinating article about the restoration process; thanks for that link Mike. I will send it to people at work about what tools we could make to ease the process. I mean the lead researcher in my team is one of the world's foremost experts about phase, he could help

Great show again Mike! Now don't wait five months to come back, please. Especially with that teaser you just threw out
