Yo. Moon almost gone in Brooklyn. DeBlasio is really screwing things up. Him and Obama.

I totally missed the moon, though. Can't see it from the FMU studio.
  10:12pm
Carmichael:

Fun, but very depleted. One of the worst droughts ever in CA. We're all praying for rain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
Andrew Waterloo:

We went outside to watch the moon. Then the clouds all came to watch the moon too.
Avatar 10:16pm
Dave Mandl:

@Carmichael: Terrible. The stories about the fires are heartbreaking. And the old Sequoias.
Avatar 10:20pm

Greetings, D, folks. Happy supermoon!

Hiya Dave!
Avatar 10:26pm

All cloudy outside now :(
Avatar 10:26pm
HollyT:

Don't worry Dave, it was underwhelming. You didn't miss much.
  10:27pm
Carmichael:

Most of the Sequoias were saved, thankfully. But sadly some lives were lost in the process. Let's go look at the moon and maybe hear some Nick Drake.

Great story behind a Blind Man's Penis.
  10:49pm
greyhoos:

"Because it needs it explaining, otherwise it doesn't make sense." They say the worst jokes are the ones that need explaining. "Blind Man's Penis" pretty much requires the explanation. I believe Trubee said in an interview that he encountered the ad for the recording service while working a 3rd shift at a convenience store, and then decided to take advantage off the lyrics in about 3 minutes tops. Or so I read many years ago.
Avatar 10:50pm
Dave Mandl:

Greetings melinda, pss, RRN63.
Avatar 10:50pm
Dave Mandl:

@melinda: Thanks. I felt like I had to tell the whole story. Makes no sense otherwise.
Avatar 10:50pm
HollyT:

Thanks, carmichael
  10:51pm
Carmichael:

Trubee himself explains it in the first 10 minutes or so of the doc.
  10:51pm

I don't see a moon out tonight
Avatar 10:52pm
Dave Mandl:

@Carmichael: Didn't know about that documentary. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm

It's funny even without an explanation, but bizarre enough that explanation helps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm

Hah... the wind blowing on the microphone of the webcam is blending with the music.
Avatar 10:54pm
Dave Mandl:

Next one's for you, Holly.
Avatar 10:54pm
slugluv1313:

i have the "Blind Man's Penis" 45 somewhere -- i believe that it has the story on the back of the sleeve, maybe even a copy of the ad for song lyrics too?
Avatar 10:55pm
HollyT:

All this talk about the moon just reminded me of years ago when there was talk that corporations had supposedly devised a way to project logos onto the moon. Does anyone remember that? There was this great, sadly long- defunct zine, along the lines of a very low-budget Adbusters, that had a story about it. Wish I could remember the name of that zine.
Avatar 10:58pm
Dave Mandl:

@slugluv1313: Wow, I've never seen that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm

Orange moon here in Maine!
Avatar 11:00pm

@melinda: Fab. I guess I'll see all the photos on Instagram tomorrow.
Avatar 11:00pm
sugarwolf:

I remember reading somewhere that the lyrics he sent in were "Stevie Wonder's penis" and when he got the song back it was changed to blind man.
  11:00pm
Carmichael:

Those guys were the real deal. If you paid up, you would get about 50 copies of your song on 45s. Surely they showed up in used record stores.
Avatar 11:00pm
Dave Mandl:

@Holly: I remember that. I guess they never figured out how to do it, or you'd be seeing it all the time.
Avatar 11:01pm
Dave Mandl:

@Carmichael: It was kind of the deal of the century. I don't think they charged all that much. They must have really cranked those records out.
  11:01pm
Mr Mooney:

Mrs. Carmichael!
  11:01pm
greyhoos:

@sugarwolf: You're right. I completely forgot that part.
Avatar 11:02pm
Dave Mandl:

@sugarwolf: That's right!
Avatar 11:03pm
slugluv1313:

@ Dave -- when i find the durned thing i will be reminded to scan it and post here! :)
and omg sugarwolf is absolutely right!!! it was originally "Stevie Wonder's Penis" -- SOMEWHERE there is an article (maybe this came with the 45 too?) with a copy of that title's "rejection letter"
Avatar 11:03pm
sugarwolf:

I feel like I read this in RE/Search's Pranks??
Avatar 11:04pm
Dave Mandl:

@sugarwolf: Yeah, I think it might have been in there. But of course there was also the Song Poems CD that came out about ten years ago. Had a ton of these songs, including Trubee's.
  11:06pm
Carmichael:

Watch the doc. All of your questions will be answered.
  11:07pm
Carmichael:

They spend a lot of time on Rodd Eskelin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm

I wonder if anyone ever sent in a "song poem" that was just a sheet of cussing.

Hey Jake, we forgot to sacrifice one of the virgins.
  11:53pm
JakeGould:

@PSS: Give her a bottle of soda, a bag of chips, a “I Survived!” pin and make sure she gets that voucher that says that we’re happy with her service and we’ll be sacrificing her sometime in the future.
  11:54pm
JakeGould:

@PSS: Also be sure to take a picture for the “Wall of Sacrificial Virgins” we have in the lobby so other virgins can be inspired by her potential sacrifice.
