afternoon Jeff and everyone!

How do, Jeff and all!! Pressing "pause" on Charlie's lovely 2015 premium to hop onto the stream. There's been so much great new FMU and GTDR to hear, I'm only now easing into my swag bag.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am
Jeff Golick:

Greetings and welcome, @ndbob and @listener james! There will be a happy meeting here, and then again with Charlie, @ljfw.

Yo. Checking in from the isthmus.

I'm loading my premiums onto iTunes ahead of travels early next year. I know I'll need lotsa ear candy between here and Portland, OR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm
listener james from westwood:

@UM: One that won't cost too much, especially for lawyers' fees!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm

Hello Jeff & Co.

Hey james are you walking?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm
JtotheK:

hi everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm
Jeff Golick:

Hey there, @βrian, @Uncle Michael, and @JtotheK! Wonderful to see you here.
Avatar 12:04pm
Mayuko:

Hallo Jeff and everyone. I have high tolerance for feeling blue and I'm ready for this show alright!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm
Jeff Golick:

Hi hi hi, @Mayuko! Glad you're ready to be blue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
listener james from westwood:

@Brian in UK: Heh, I'd save some $ and lose some #, no doubt. All the flights seem long and involve two planes, so I'm loading up ahead of losing a day to air travel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
Jeff Golick:

Missed you there, @Brian in UK! Sorry & welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
Brian in UK:

@james it would seem that train travel in your vast country is not a popular option these days. You do need some sounds to take the edge off the drone of the engines.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Jeff Golick:

There's a very good chance that this show will go over its allotted hour...won't be able to bring you all to @Mayuko's doorstop, though.
Avatar 12:20pm
mauri:

sun has set here. good evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
listener james from westwood:

@Brian: For short inter-city hauls it's gained traction b/c it's less of a pain than navigating the TSA at airports. For example, I'm contemplating a Portland–Seattle hop to visit friends in the Microsoft suburbs before flying home from that city. That leg's a perfect candidate for train travel. Cross-country is still better done out here by plane if speed's a primary variable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
listener james from westwood:

I also did NJ to Philadelphia by train some years back and it was far more civilized than the Fury Road–like death race that is the NJ Turnpike. A+ would use again. Same for Baltimore, DC, or maybe Boston.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm
Jeff Golick:

Good evening, @mauri.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
Jeff Golick:

I've logged many miles on the Northeast Corridor, and do really love to travel by train. There can be hassles, but not cursing traffic is a benefit.
Avatar 12:28pm
βrian:

Governor Weasel thought it would be a good idea to turn down federal funding and thereby kill modern passenger rail service in Wisconsin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm
Brian in UK:

Jeff you could play any Sinatra from 55/56 for the show today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm
Brian in UK:

We travelled from London to Vienna by three trains, the third being a sleeper. All were late and we arrived bang on time. Go figure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
JtotheK:

@Brian - don't forget WI is still on the hook for some of the trains that were ordered...I read about that a few weeks back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm
Uncle Michael:

Sam's blog?
Avatar 12:35pm
Mayuko:

I didn't know Sam had a blog either!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm
Jeff Golick:

ifyouloseyourhorse.blogspot.com - am I the only one who reads Doug's emails?
Avatar 12:38pm
βrian:

For that and for almost two decades of research done to prepare for the eventual rail service.
Avatar 12:41pm
Mayuko:

Now I feel like a distracted elementary school student who's not listening to teachers. Thanks for the link! This blog of Sam is really brand new!
Avatar 12:46pm
βrian:

@Mayuko: No worries. The DSM has an entry for that.
Avatar 12:48pm
βrian:

This is a remarkably congruent follow-on to Joe McGasko's excellent show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
Jeff Golick:

Oh, that is great to hear, βrian. I had sorta missed Joe's move to Mondays with the new schedule.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Jeff Golick:

Favoring the "random" school of segues today.

excellent show Jeff!

Thank you, @ndbob!

Time to get ready and head to the station. Thank you Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm

Thanks for listening, @Mayuko - have a great show!

Thanks for the company, βrian, as ever!

Glad to have you, @ljfw!

An appendix or a coda?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm
Jeff Golick:

Codicil, I think?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm

Nobody beats the Moz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
JtotheK:

thanks for The Smiths (and others) encore!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
Jeff Golick:

Heh, @ljfw. Though the book reviews might well cut him down quite a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
Jeff Golick:

My pleasure, truly, @JtotheK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
JtotheK:

i've yet to read Moz's autobiography...it's on my 'to read (eventually)' pile...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
Jeff Golick:

Seems a much better bet than this new novel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm
JtotheK:

oh my, i didn't realize he had a novel out - a search found 'List of the Lost', going to have to read some articles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
listener james from westwood:

Land of the Lost >>> List of the Lost, I'm gonna guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
Jeff Golick:

from The Guardian review of List of the Lost: "Verbose, tangential, unfocused – and, perhaps worst of all from a onetime source of such laser-guided lyricism, linguistically imprecise - it is bewilderingly all over the shop, a slew of mini-polemics through which poke the author’s abiding obsessions and bugbears, all set against a quasi-fabular 'story' with no clear plot or, indeed, point."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm
listener james from westwood:

Oof. Did it go through an actual (and possibly myopically greedy) publisher, or did he self-publish? If the former, sounds like a case of someone who hasn't heard the word "no" in a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
JtotheK:

well, i was on the fence ... but no clear plot/point -- this I have to read!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
Jeff Golick:

Penguin UK published, @ljfw. The first line of that Guardian review notes his need for an editor! [www.theguardian.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
Jeff Golick:

I promise at least one, premeditated two-hour show in the month of October.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
listener james from westwood:

I've copyedited and proofread rock folk. I am ready for his next effort. Rates reasonable.

Thursday mornings are begging for mercy. That would be a great slot.
Avatar 1:43pm
ndbob:

excellent coda Jeff!
Avatar 1:45pm
bobdoesthings:

thanks! caught much of last half.. great show
Avatar 1:45pm
βrian:

The coda is wagging the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Jeff Golick:

Thanks for listening and commenting, @bobdoesthings!
And for sticking around, @ndbob, @βrian, @listener james, et al.!
