Happy Halloween all. The Cars were my first concert, Dec '80 at the Garden. Best part was seeing XTC open right before Andy's panic attacks.

@dk: Cool! Saw them on their last tour at the Garden -- I forget who opened, or even what year it was...long time ago!

My first big concert was Rush at the SD Sports Arena in '83 -- Golden Earring opened for them.

Mike-Guess Mamk HS had a good sized contingent. We don't know each other but you roomed with a good friend and fellow MHS musician in your LA days. XTC kicked The Cars' butt performance wise.

Avatar 11:46am
dk50b:

I avoided liking Rush because they were lumped as heavy metal therefore couldn't be good. Plus a guy at college was in the "Neil Peart is God" club further raising my distaste. Since realized they're in a class of their own. Memories of first hearing The Spirit of Radio in drafting class at MHS came back when I learned the song's about CFNY which I listened to in college.

Mike-The doc was great. Learned how Geddy got his nickname and great stuff of success despite their hard to label music. There's also an amazing Jam doc playing now on Showtime.

"Beyond the Lighted Stage." The doc is spectacular for sure. There's also a featurette in the extras of them just all eating dinner and slowly getting drunk in a nice restaurant, they really are wonderfully likable guys.

Wow, is this the demo? (the original is on Costello's "Mighty Like a Rose"). I really wish someone (Paul? you out there?) would release an album of all the songs they wrote together (they also did a show in the U.K. at one point). There's 12 or so that appeared on various Costello & McCartney albums, but 2 never came out...can probably find them online.
  12:34pm
lloyd michigan:

This was a live radio broadcast, beautifully mixed and the sound quality is superb. Not only was this the ONLY time Paul and Elvis performed live together, it's McCartney's sole performance with a string quartet.
Performing Beatles classics Eleanor Rigby, Lady Madonna, For No One and Yesterday.

Thx Mike. Still pissed I'm so out of the loop found about the Rabies reunion on your show. Always preferred them to later versions, when Torin was bitten by the R.E.M. bug, not that there's anything wrong with that.
