Evening! Nice Oldfield groove here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am
coelacanth:

Wow! this is the most i've ever heard Lulu get down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am
Zach:

now you're playing my music
  12:30am
JakeGould:

16 speed is “The Chipmunks” at normal speed, right?
  12:30am
Santos L Halper:

These rodents sound sublime
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am
coelacanth:

so this is that spin-off of the chipmonks- the sloths?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am
jj.:

"normal" speed is relative to the ear & the horizon, but something like that.
  12:33am
rw:

I can't remember if I told the story here of my friend Mike who would play his gregorian chant LP on 16. He had a colored light bulb in the center of the ceiling on a dimmer switch. The two together were pretty mesmerizing. There may have been drugs involved too.
Avatar 12:33am
BEAVO:

No, this is the Bangles at 16 rpm

evening

Oh, and hello!

I am thoroughly enjoying tonight's broadcast.

BEAVO:

Now this one would sound better at 78
  12:48am
rw:

16 is more or less half of 33. Why aren't 45s double 33? They're more like 1.5x. Then there are 78s... I never understood the system. Is it arbitrary? Does it have something to do with gearing?
  12:50am
rw:

I DO know the system for f. stops in photography though.

great frow show so far! I give it a good f22

just for full depth of field, ya know
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am
coelacanth:

i don't know the rationale, but it sure was fun to have all 4 speeds, when i was a child.
  1:04am
rw:

coelacanth, agreed! Why would they stop including all speeds??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09am
coelacanth:

first they stopped producing 16s because they sounded so bad; then stopped 78s because they were impractical...
then some silly fool decided turntables were not toys but devices for the reproduction of sound at the recorded speed- as crazy as that sounds!

this Herbcraft is extra nice

might have to show these guys how to play psych guitar :)

coelacanth:

the first record i ever bought, when i was 5 -"yesterday" b/w "act naturally" (10¢ at a friend's garage sale) was so disappointing, after being so thoroughly In Love with "Meet the Beatles"...one side so slow & mellow;the other so corny & country.
...it ended up bringing hours of joy to myself & siblings, thanks to the 16rpm through 78rpm range of our record player. (& because of the option to not have an insert installed in the middle of the 7"!)
Avatar 1:37am
Knile:

oooh whalesongs! Now I'm reading about this record. Fantastic.
  1:38am
rw:

coelacanth, Can't believe you can remember that far back! I'm imagining that record at all speeds to a kindergartener (or somebody at any age). Sounds pretty great in my mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49am
coelacanth:

rw, i'm a dimwit in most ways, but i do have an excellent memory!
i wish i had recordings of all my vinyl shenanigans as a child. i remember it clearly, but even if i still had that horrible Danny Kaye children's album and that 45 and the rest,i wouldn't do that to the turntable i own now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53am
coelacanth:

(+ it's just a 2-speed)

- i've got to check out.
Thank you Jesse!
g'night,or whatever, rw & others.
