i never noticed before that Bowie (heavily) borrowed from this for "tvc15"...but then i've never heard this version of cow cow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm

i've heard that...and Berry ultimately never gave him his due- by a long shot; which adds to the potentiality of it.

Melinda it's called "The New Possibility." He did two volumes and they've now combined them both into one album which I think is still available. One of my favorite Christmas albums!

Wash Post did nice piece on how River became a Christmas favorite despite being 'thoroughly depressing.' Ran last week, easily found online, bunch of links to covers by people like Sarah McLachlan. Worth a look for lovers of the song.

Consider 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Xmas' : there's thoroughly depressing all over Xmas Music...

...I like in 'Martian Chronicles' - Dickens' spirit resented getting sent to where the other Ghost & Macabre writers' spirits ended up...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
melinda:

@Listener: River is a great xmas song, I'm not surprised it's a favorite. Lots of people are kinda depressed or at least touched by melancholy around this time, so it offers an alternative to forced cheer.

Speaking of Sinatra: Very soon it will be time to cue up the one xmas tradition we keep around here -- midnight screening of MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM. … did it sarcastically about 20 years ago and it stuck. Now it has completely bonded with the holiday. Every xmas eve since 1995..
