The program formerly known as Dinner at Andy's, The Fuzzy Glove Hour, Whores, and The Happiness Hut. Ken and Andy, also known as The Enema Boys, further lower WFMU's already abysmal standards on a weekly basis. Stunt radio which subjects the radio audience to concepts and topics which mature adults should not have to endure. Find the fatal flaw. (Visit homepage.)

Its not possible to write songs that don't sound like other songs, so now, you just have to insert a bunch of weird effects and ambient shit in-between parts and BOOM! Modern originals, man.

There's that one with Red Hot Chili Peppers and, it was Nickelback wasn't it?

Killing Jokes "Eighties" and Nirvana's "Come as You are" have the exact same riff.

And both are similar to The Damned's "Life Goes On"

I remember something about Randy California. He was in a pick-up band with Hendrix and there were 2 Randys in the band so Hendrix called him Randy California...

The Spirit song sounds a bit like "Summer Rain" by Johnny Rivers.

Everyone raids everyone don't they? Isn't that just part of the creative process? Classical composers did it too, incorporating folk songs or bird songs, etc.

Dylan is famous for stealing!
  6:28pm
bob from bushwood:

I have wondered if McCartney wasn't noodling around with the jazz standard Yesterdays when he wrote Yesterday. Actually I might have stolen this idea
  6:33pm

Except Yesterday and Yesterday's have totally different chord progressions

Did they do Vanilla Ice and Queen yet?
Avatar 6:35pm

Those obvious quotes from other artists were considered name checks / tributes, hiding in plain sight. Tracking down a composition's DNA was part of the fun and how the greater history revealed itself to you;how you learned your history and chose your ancestors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
Marcel M:

Its definitely acceptable to use Sabbath riffs. Basically all stoner metal/doom bands do it. Some more obvious than others. Also blues riffs.. c'mon. They are all the same! It ain't stealin'! ;-)

That Stooges riff is so easy to stumble upon randomly and just think you had something. But at what point are you like, "oh, ok.. I can't use that."
  6:39pm
JakeGould:

@MarcelM: Everyone steals. It’s just how lazy the copying effort is. If someone wants to steal a riff and grow it, most people don’t care.

Deep Purple and It's A Beautiful Day swiped riffs from each other and both were all "oh, go on then".

It was the Beatles' publisher who sued, not the Beatles themselves — as the Beatles very famously don't own the publishing rights to their songs.
