Good evening/morning, listeners!

Good morning Mark!
  3:20am
Mark R.:

Felt like we needed a mellow beginning this evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28am
pacific standard simon:

Checking in, Mark.
  3:33am
Mark R.:

Nice to have you with us tonight, Simon. This next set's going to be a bit more upbeat. Hold on to your hats, kids!
Avatar 3:34am
Ryab:

Wow great tunes Mark.

Tomorrow would be my 31st wedding anniversary, if I was still married.

Tomorrow would be my 31st wedding anniversary, if I was still married.
  3:35am
Mark R.:

Oh, man, that can be emotional. Thanks for spending it with us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35am
pacific standard simon:

Well that was peculiar...
  3:50am
Mark R.:

I assume you're all dancing your asses off out there. Being alone is no excuse, now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52am
pacific standard simon:

Being alone would be the best reason to do so, given what my dancing looks like.
  4:06am
Mark R.:

Mary's either appalled or delighted, I'm not sure which yet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07am
pacific standard simon:

I have to admit, this sounds a little bit like a National Lampoon Radio Hour parody.
  4:08am
Mark R.:

The main reason Muddy didn't like it was because his band couldn't re-create this sound on stage.
  4:11am
Mark R.:

Listening to this album right now on the studio headphones is truly amazing! It's so awful, it's good. It's awfully good. Pete Cosey, who later played with Miles, plays on this album, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13am
pacific standard simon:

The drummer is definitely appalling.
  4:14am
Mark R.:

Mary's speechless. Back in the library there's a switch to listen to the show on the air or not, and she's got it turned off. That's a statement in itself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15am
pacific standard simon:

I was listening to The Hot Spot soundtrack this evening, which is a nice example of electric blues/rock/jazz fusion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17am
pacific standard simon:

This is Eddie Murphy's birthday. Wanna hear that song about putting the boogie in your butt.
  4:17am
Mark R.:

I love that soundtrack. My understanding it wasn't much of a movie, but the soundtrack was great. Thanks for reminding me of that one, I have to listen to that one later.
  4:18am
Mark R.:

I just watched the James Brown Celebrity Hot Tub sketch a couple days ago!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19am

Hey, Doris Day is 92 today! So many choices!

4/3/67 was the golden age.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25am

Damn! It's Richard Thompson's B-day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35am
pacific standard simon:

Yay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36am
pacific standard simon:

I like the way he sings, too.
  4:47am
Mark R.:

Thought it would be fun to hear all the different things you can do with a guitar in this set (and the end of the last one with Jimi)
  4:49am
Mark R.:

By the way, that wasn't my usual technical ineptitude, all that wow and flutter was just Andrew Bird messing with us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59am
pacific standard simon:

Charlie Hunter makes his 8-string guitar sound like an organ. Don't know how -- maybe a pedal.
  5:07am
Mark R.:

Dee Murray is so good on this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08am
pacific standard simon:

There was a contemporary rock press story that there was a massive difference between the sound of the official release, and the sound of the bootleg -- and it favored the bootleg.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11am
pacific standard simon:

You can listen to that and not anticipate all the weirdness that was to come in Elton's career.
  5:12am
Tommy Haynes:

NO way EJ played and sung and played that at the same time .He did it as an instrumental and overdubbed the singing later
  5:13am
Mark R.:

Still sounds great to me, though.
  5:14am
Tommy Haynes:

and Dee Murray's bass part was insane
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14am
pacific standard simon:

The Bad Plus sounding like King Crimson! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16am
pacific standard simon:

Oops, drifting into ELP territory...
Avatar 5:17am
mauri:

the bad plus was funny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25am
pacific standard simon:

The Bad Plus was my second favorite thing on this show, after the Hendrix.
  5:26am
Mark R.:

Hard to top Hendrix. Just as Pete Townsend.
  5:26am
Mark R.:

ask, not as! Dammit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29am
pacific standard simon:

Indeed, Mark. You should do a Monterey Pop anniversary show.
  5:52am
Mark R.:

Thanks for listening, everyone!
