great, on the Jumpin Jive, Diane. now plz, this is a JOKE, via the Trachtenburg Family Slide Show Players. their shtick is to play songs in diff styles, and at a show once, singer Jason intros: "this song is done in a jazz vein. are there any jazz fans here?". and a very very moderate applause. Jason: "yeah, i can take it or leave it myself". i laughed.

He was psyched that in 3rd grade I picked up clarinet. I learned though, that it was frowned on to play it aimed skyward, like many of his favorites. That was not OK in grade school, but I tried!

For better or worse, I associate Buddy Rich with the afternoon talk show circuit c. 1970. Always stunning. Later I'd see his records on, e.g., Pablo, and I'd experience a bit of cognitive dissonance.

Diane, my condolences. When my father passed I was there with him and we had Stan Getz Compact Jazz playing. He was a musician and Jazz hound, so we played jazz sets at his wake and funeral as well. Sorry for your loss.
