P-90:

I humbly but firmly express my (no doubt worthless) opinion that the original theme song is an admittedly idiosyncratic but completely fitting opener for this program, whether at 6 AM or 3 PM. I have been a faithful, enthusiastic listener since the very first web-only broadcast last Spring, and I feel strongly that changing the opening music would be a regrettable compromise. I know I will almost certainly be overruled on this, but some of us FMU folk will feel honor bound to stand against the mediocratization and perversion of a DJ's original inspiration wherever and whenever the possibility appears.
The present opening theme expresses the essence of the intention behind the SBB show perfectly well, which no doubt is how it came to be selected in the first place. My advice: stand strong, stay pure, don't allow your vision to be diluted by second thoughts and the well-meaning but misguided attempt by others to "improve" your show, with little "tweaks" to their preference. It's a slippery slope to start down.
So there.

Yep, P-90 all the way. And, if you don't like the theme, just tune in five minutes late - problem solved!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm
Fuzzy:

Yeah -- stick with your original interval signal so listeners can easily identify the program that is about to begin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm
Adrian in London:

@Cliff The Contessa once saw Glenn Campbell play live and towards the end when he came on and started hooting away on the bagpipes we decided that coming home to watch a Cary Grant film was probably the best course of action.

  4:40pm
Ed McG:

I think it was one of the episodes from the 1990s TV series "Ally McBeal," where someone tells Ally that she needs a theme song to deepen her brand. I can't find the episode, but I think that a theme song is actually optional. If you find something that reflects your taste and your attitude and your sensabilities - use it. However, if you are straining to fit into some mold, just remember it's free-form radio. John Barry's theme for the James Bond movies probably sets a high mark for theme songs. If you find something that meets that level of intensity, you've got what you need. Otherwise, sail on, because it's going to be less than great.

Your theme song is great. Change it if you want, but only because _YOU_ want. It sets the mood nicely for your show, setting it audibly apart from the previous show, which is exactly what a theme should do (which is not to say I don't like Bryce (or Kurt, in the case of today) because I really like Bryce!). Your's in particular is a nice because of how well it distills your musical sensibilities into one perfect package.
