@Joe: I'm sure! You know those Cosmic Joker records? Someone invited all those dudes over to take drugs and jam in his studio. Supposedly the players didn't realize he was going to release it, and one day Manuel Göttsching walked into a record store where it was playing and asked the clerk who it was cuz he dug it or something.

I will say that Slade and the Sweet were closer to straight up rock 'n' roll than they were to glam or pomp rock. But they were considered teeny bop music, too.

Plus, the time Joe, or any of the other FMU DJs spend talking is still less than half the time of most commercial DJ's. And nowhere near as vapid. I'd rather hear Joe talk for 10 minutes about something interesting and pertinent to the music, than any of my local DJs talk about nothing for 2.

I second JP from KC's comment. I had to listen to a commercial NYC classic rock station recently for the first time in years, and was absolutely appalled. They play four songs, then the DJ literally reads two commercials, then they play about 10 minutes of actual commercials. It is truly a dying medium. I'll take FMU DJ mic breaks full of erudite musings any day.

Thanks for this set, Joe. I was completely unfamiliar, but now I'll be on the lookout for some EOE to add to my library.

That is about par for the Eggs Over Easy story.

Ken From Hyde Park:

Could the playlist page provide some kind of "I Can't Take It" button that listeners could use to bail out? It could provide a menu of alternate sounds for X number of minutes. X=3, 5, 10 or "until the next show starts," etc. The alternate sounds could be Muzak®, crickets, the DJ's bed music on loop, a microphone on the roof, etc.

You bet, JP! Glad you enjoyed it, Brian! A few technical issues today, but I think it's sorted.

That's actually a great idea, Ken. I like the mic on the roof suggestion. That seems very WFMU.

Parq:

Tangential but worth mentioning. A female comedian talked about getting worked over by a self-styled make out artist, who promised her breakfast -- "how do you like your eggs?" She answered, "I like my eggs unfertilized, now get out of my face."

@JP Meaghan's bed music was from Coney Island boardwalk. Street sounds.

I've been on the outskirts of radioland this morning, but super show Joe (what I've been able to hear of it) Thanks for the Eggs Over Easy set & interview - a real treat!

One more time for the cheap seats in the back! This song is very pretty.

Pretty awesome track!

@Brian in UK: That's awesome! Almost as good as Donna's purring cats bed. Or maybe that was Cheyenne. I don't remember.

Joe, I'm just astonished that you or anyone is aware of Eggs Over Easy. I have the Edsel reissue of the Good 'N' Cheap album. The song Arkansas is amazing, as though early Wilco heard that song and said "that's how we should sound". One of the earliest things you could call country rock.
