Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Charlie:

Michael -- in answer to your question: I started doing a schedule of overnight fill-ins, then an overnight show for a schedule, then a morning show. Moved around mornings for a while, sometimes noon to 3 pm too, eventually settled in to Monday mornings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Charlie:

Hello Jan and Nikol!
Mauri -- thanks!
and hi Sphere too :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Parq:

That was some cover of "Billy Joe".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Charlie:

Howdy schmutz and Parq :)
I think I played that version of Billie Joe on my second show on WFMU in '96.
  12:17pm testingwithfire:

Happy anniversary Charlie! Thank Bog for Modern Streaming Technology.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Parq:

That "Summertime" is my favorite BBHC track, by the way, maybe even my favorite Janice track.
Avatar 12:18pm bobdoesthings:

it's your birthday Charlie?? If so - HAPPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Charlie:

Parq -- just saw the Janis docu, which was pretty good. Scenes of them in the studio mixing that song :)
Avatar 12:21pm PN:

yo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Charlie:

testingwithfire -- welcome!
bobdoes -- it's my show's birthday: first show on WFMU was July 10, 1996.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Charlie:

PN -- lovely to see you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm doctorjazz:

Where's that Janis documentary, Netflix by any chance? Amazon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm JP from KC:

Stevie Wonder rarely gets the credit he deserves for some outright amazing harmonica work. Greetings, Nothing-doers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Webhamster Henry:

Happy 20th anniversary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm JP from KC:

docorjazz, it's on netflix. I've got it in my queue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm doctorjazz:

Have to check it out! Thanks!
  12:29pm Andy the painter:

happy anniversary, mister chollie!
will always remember the "play side six first" show from.....199? featuring the Clash's Sandinista. that's when I started getting busy doing nothing....thanks!
Avatar 12:29pm sphere:

my favorite Big Brother & Holding Company track was a10 minute live version of Ball and Chain. man, the guitar was reaching Fushitsusha levels of awesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm schmutz:

I've been following your wacky radio journey for 14 years. Thanks for being there Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Parq:

This is a new Janis doc, I take it. I saw the 1974 one back in college.
Avatar 12:30pm ndbob:

afternoon Charlie and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Jeff Golick:

Happy anniversary, happy anniversary [song continues]!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Charlie:

doctorjazz -- I think I watched the Janis doc on Netflix
Avatar 12:32pm ndbob:

Happy Anniversary Charlie - been listening since 1998 I think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Charlie:

Hey there, JP in KC
Hi ndBob!
Jeff G!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Jeff Golick:

Janis doc is fine, but the movie I want to see is Jenna Maroney in the biopic "Jackie Jormp-Jomp."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm doctorjazz:

Man, does this Buzzcocks take me back...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Charlie:

Sphere -- I love the live version of Ball and Chain from Monterey Pop.
Avatar 12:39pm Sarah N:

Happy Anniversary Charlie from across the pond. Listening since 2003/4ish. Thanks for feeding our ears xxx
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Charlie:

Hi Sarah! Glad you could tune in:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Charlie:

And thanks to so many of you for wasting so much of your valuable time with me over the years ;) If not for you, I'd just be busy doing nothing all by my lonesome!
  12:47pm Listening Out There:

Congrats on the anniversary, Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm JP from KC:

@Jeff G, Ha! I totally forgot about that bit. Jane Krakowski is one of those actresses, like Jessica Walter and Parker Posey, that are so incredibly good at playing insufferably bitchy characters, that you have to believe they're the sweetest people ever in real life, so you don't just end up completely despising them.
Avatar 12:49pm Mayuko:

Happy 15 anniversary, Charlie!
Avatar 12:50pm Mayuko:

oh, 20?! sorry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm JP from KC:

Then you have actresses like Shannen Doherty, who is apparently really good at playing an insufferable bitch because that is, in fact, what she is in real life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Mike East:

Boogarins gonna be at Monte Hall this summer, I think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Jeff Golick:

@JP: YES. I have it on pretty good authority that Jane K. is very sweet in real life. Her little Janis arc is one of my favorite silly things from 30 Rock, just on wordplay alone, e.g.: "I will be playing Janis Joplin. Or, depending on how some legal matters pan out, a Janis Joplin-type character named Janet Jopler or Janie Jimplin."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Charlie:

Hi Listening Out There, and thanks!
Hello Mayuko! It's 20, actually! I just liked this picture:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm listener james from westwood:

One of the best decisions of that show was to go with Jane K vs. Rachel Dratch for Jenna's role. No offense to Dratch, but Krakowski was perfect for it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Charlie:

Enjoying this "Janet Jopler" thread, even though I have no idea who or what you're referring to!
Avatar 1:08pm Mayuko:

That track #2 should be "Yusha macalania seven", Charlie, I found them in fmu library like a year ago. Was it you who left it there? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Brian in UK:

Hello Charlie, I believe congratulations are in order.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Charlie:

Mayuko -- thank you for the title! I have loved that album for years, and have no idea what the titles are. I can find very little info on it online. Thanks!
Avatar 1:10pm Mayuko:

oh! always feel free to let me know if you need Japanese translation/info - I'd be very happy to help any time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Charlie:

I'd love the titles for all the tracks on that album :)
Avatar 1:12pm Mayuko:

Bidziliba is not too well known compare to her other project Fuchigami to Funato, so it wasn't too easy to find info about this even in Japanese.
Avatar 1:12pm Mayuko:

Sure! I'll send them along!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Brian in UK:

Mayuko, I saw our daughter last weekend she was starting to learn Japanese. Explaining the different languages.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Jeff Golick:

Ok, LAST Jackie/Janet/Janie item, I promise. Someone did a Criterion cover for the movie: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com... - Because some people are awesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Jeff Golick:

Charlie, is that whole Pugh album solid?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Mike East:

very difficult to get any work done when you're playing such excellent music. Please play a polka set so I don't get in trouble.
Avatar 1:17pm Mayuko:

that was pretty good!
Avatar 1:19pm Mayuko:

Brian, my boyfriend recently started to take Japanese classes too, and now I've realized how crazy it is to have three different alphabets. Hope your daughter is enjoying it though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Charlie:

I've always wanted to study Japanese.
English is probably one of the most insanely weird languages to learn though, with the unpredictable pronunciation and words that look and sound the same but mean different things.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm doctorjazz:

Billie!!!
  1:26pm rf:

everything is so very good thank you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm doctorjazz:

Who did this originally? (First Girl...)
Avatar 1:29pm Mayuko:

@Charlie yah, and idioms are tough :/
Avatar 1:31pm Roberto:

Gold star for Sam!
  1:33pm Johnisastegosaurus:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Charlie:

Oh, yeah, Mayuko, our crazy idioms! I feel for you (there's one now).
Avatar 1:34pm Roberto:

My daughter is studying Japanese in college.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Mazel Tov, Mr. Lewis! I've been listening the whooooole way. Still remember calling after you played a Theresa Teng song off a Canal St. tape acquisition....Or was it all a dream??!!. Thanks for lotsa great stuff, Charlie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Charlie:

rf -- hi, very good
Roberto, hello too!
Yeah, I like that Sam Philips album and the one after that. T-Bone does great production. I first heard that song, and Sam, in the film, Ruby in Paradise, which I quite liked too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Charlie:

Hi Kevin -- haha, yes, that really happened, *and* it was all a dream;)
Avatar 1:39pm Roberto:

Thanks for all the Charlie, Charlie. You definitely helped me through some crappy days in the early '00s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm KevinfromBayRidge:

And we did have that discussion while both possessing dark,non-grey, hair?
Avatar 1:40pm Roberto:

Not that there's any shortage of crappy days lately. But man, those were some crappy days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Charlie:

Roberto -- glad you made it through the many crappy days to the current fewer crappy days.
Kevin -- I still have a mix:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Sure, me too. 10 grey-whites to 1 brown!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm listener james from westwood:

Must punch out early for a conference call, but many thanks, Charlie, for today and for your being an integral part of what makes WFMU WFMU.
Avatar 1:54pm Mayuko:

I'm happy that now I am part of Busy Doing Nothing listener history too along with all other long time listeners! Congrats again & thank you Charlie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Jeff Golick:
