We were rooting for Portugal...

	11:28am Joe McG: @Marcel: Actually, he's playing a very cheap electric that he picked up for $150 in Chicago at the start of his tour and that he put on the merch table at his last gig! The U.S. government makes it really hard for musicians to bring their instruments into the country for some bizarre reason.
	11:28am Joe McG: @P-90: I think it was a Tesco or something like that.
	11:30am Marcel M: @Joe: I was just messing around about the chopstick! Hah! If he has an instrument with Brazilian rosewood, first of all, awesome, but second, it makes it difficult to travel around with for sure.
	11:31am Wild Neil: There was a raid on a famous US guitar company for having exotic woods in stock....guys in swat gear and everything....nuts!
	11:32am Marcel M: @Neil: Yep, at Gibson. illegally sourced ebony and rosewood from Madagascar.

	11:34am Marcel M: went against CITES rules. Internationally laws are very confusing and frustrating for many people trying to sell internationally. In Europe, they can and will confiscate a vintage guitar with a braz board even if you've had it for 20 years or whatever if you list on Ebay.

	11:35am Cecile: well, I'm not condoning it, but I'm sure for a luthier the beauty of the wood and the possibility of working with it outweighed common sense.
	11:36am Wild Neil: Would eucalyptus be a good guitar wood? I have a patio table made from responsibly sourced plantation raised Eucalyptus...it really pretty but not terribly DENSE. The Boardwalk in Atlantic City is made from this beautiful Ipe wood that looks like dark chocolate...

	11:45am herb.nyc: aside, and related to wood: i saw a glamourous photo of ritzy bldgs - and one had PETRIFIED WOOD STAIRS!
	11:46am P-90: "Teiscp El Ray"? Japanese, inexpensive but he sounds so good on it. He probably chose to sell it off at the end of the tour because bringing it back home would have been a hassle too. What a shame! The Brazilian rosewood Gibson got raided for was from "legit" sources like stumps and recycled paneling, but they didn't have all the proper documentation on file and the FBI decided there had to be an investigation. They were basically looking to make an example of (well-known) Gibson, to show they were serious about these importation restrictions on endangered woods.

The U.S. government makes it really hard for musicians to bring their instruments into the country for some bizarre reason.

	11:46am P-90: "Teiscp El Ray"? Japanese, inexpensive but he sounds so good on it. He probably chose to sell it off at the end of the tour because bringing it back home would have been a hassle too. What a shame! The Brazilian rosewood Gibson got raided for was from "legit" sources like stumps and recycled paneling, but they didn't have all the proper documentation on file and the FBI decided there had to be an investigation. They were basically looking to make an example of (well-known) Gibson, to show they were serious about these importation restrictions on endangered woods.
