Does anyone else get spontaneous malfunctions w/the pop-up player, where it starts playing a previous show? I've switched to iTunes and it's fine now but when it happens it's disconcerting.

@melinda if listening to daniel is wrong, I don't wanna be right

the pop-up player is working no problem for me, melinda. starting a previous show sounds pretty strange.

P-90:

@melinda: I've spent literally thousands of hours listening on the Pop Up player, I've experienced a few hiccups, but never, ever, has it started playing a previous show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm
melinda:

It was playing Put the Needle on the Record but it took me a while to figure that out. I wondered why Daniel was playing hip hop and why his voice had changed. I think it's my computer's problem, no one else was having an issue the last time it happened and I commented.

melinda, i ask only because i've done it...are you sure you didn't pause pop-up player during BJam's show? (or did someone else?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
melinda:

That could be it, actually. I did shut my laptop during the show. But the other time it happened, I hadn't done anything, and it kept happening even after closing and re-opening the player.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
coelacanth:

... i don't like pop-up player for a few reasons - mainly because it doesn't sound that good; but also because of hiccups (sometimes frequent), and that it needs to be re-loaded at the end of every show...
Avatar 11:09pm
Mayuko:

What really happened to cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov, who died crashing to Earth in 1967?
io9.gizmodo.com... Thank you for the Vladimir Komarov story. It really is interesting and I am reading about it now as if I haven't got distracted enough from the work I'm supposed to be doing right now.
Avatar 🌫 Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
ἶkε:

I usually don't use the pop-up player either. Not that it's unreliable or anything, but I prefer to use software like VLC and save the MP3 stream into its bookmarks. A bit less quirky, maybe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
coelacanth:

Mayuko didn't you dedicate a program to him once?
Avatar 🌫 Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I like how cosmonauts back in the day sere sent into space with pistols and ammunition because they'd possibly come to earth in desolate areas and might need to shoot bears or other wildlife while they waited days to get picked up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
coelacanth:

on this (new condition) ancient vista laptop i'm using lately vlc player was such a pain in the ass and had so many problems (aside from that it's just not a user-friendly player) that i finally dumped it yesterday. i figured the worst case scenario is that i'd download it again... but i found an older version of basic realplayer and now life is easy again, as it always has been on my ancient macbook with realplayer.
...vlc sucks.
Avatar 11:15pm
Mayuko:

Whoa, good memory, coelacanth! Thank you for remembering it. It was Ivan Ivanovich though, the dummy cosmonaut and he survived back to the earth. Ivan would have been fine even if he failed to land.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
melinda:

Disturbing and interesting story about Cosmonaut Komarov.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
coelacanth:

haha! that's right, it was the dummy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
coelacanth:

(i have to read about Vladimir Komarov.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
melinda:

The story reminded me of an heirloom tomato named Cosmonaut Volkov, so I looked him up and it turns out he died during his space flight, too.
Avatar 🌫 Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
ἶkε:

Well, there's also Foobar 2000 and older versions of Winamp. Those are probably easier to use than VLC.
Avatar 🌫 Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Still here, Mayuko? Your new time slot begins at noon tomorrow, right?
Avatar 11:48pm
Mayuko:

Yup! Thank you for remembering it, Ken! I am looking forward to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm
coelacanth:

Ike, i have no experience with foobar and i couldn't find a free version of winamp...or maybe a version at all for snow leopard. i don't remember; but though i know you have a vendetta against realplayer.
... i downloaded it once about 5-6 years ago into my macbook from c.2008. i've never had a problem. it's free. i've never upgraded or had to re-download it. it sounds great. i can back up & listen to 2-3 hours ago if i missed something. it loads up almost instantly.
...so i tried it in this machine, and so far it seems nearly as good. (it doesn't load as fast; but then nothing happens as fast with vista, does it?)

Great show D, time for bed now!

coelacanth:

g'night melinda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm

Ike, also, since you've referred to it as "bloated" - it uses no more space than vlc, and less energy than vlc.
Avatar 11:58pm

Thanks, DB!

DARN DARN DARN I got people here who are enjoying themselves and Daniel's music in the background. They keep talking about going to a club next but they're in no hurry. So I won't make it out to Brooklyn for Sheila's Sh-Boom Party.
Oh well. @Daniel you're show's too good. i should have switched to some crummy Spotify stream and chased everyone out.
