Has anybody here ever thought of doing gigs as a music critic for the paper or anything? I think I know just enough about music to be dangerous...I should probably leave this career for the musicians in the room who know their music theory.,..
Avatar 4:22pm
TDK60:

Hiya Scott, Sandy Bull's a longtime fave -- one of the first '60s folkies to do raga-like stuff, with rock and jazz lick thrown in, very hep. Very freak folk, eons before that term came along.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm

@Wild Neil: Sandy Bull was a mind blower. I actually thought about you thinking you'd be kindred spirits

@Wild Neil: Check out D:O Radio. Weird Jazz to blow your mind
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Neil: I have noticed that. My own theory on the grouping reflects their common origin at the beginning of the 20th century in the Mississippi River corridor (Memphis-Tupelo-Nyoo Orle'ns), and "pop" music orchestras in the 30s and 40s had that "swing" music which was like a hybrid of both.

Of course they diverged strongly in the 40s, with hard-bop jazz and 12-bar blues (and subsequently, rock 'n roll). I suppose those who still support those genres are thinking of it academically and historically, instead of trying to play music that syncs with each other. (Or, they consider the improv "jam" styles of both to have a similar enough vibe).
