Vermont! In real time - I agree - is the most fun. Connects all of us on this here page. However (!) archives are amazing to have...we can't survive with out them. And Europe....they tend to sleep at this hour!

wool socks on for putzing and reading for the first time this season

Bethany Ryker:

The Brooklyn Rider performance where they played Glenn Kotche's piece was Tannery Pond Concerts, a smaller enterprise than Maverick (which is amazing, by the way.) Checked the location - the New Yorker listed the GPS coordinates - first time I've ever seen that!:

Always super cool to hear Martinů... thanks Bethany! And hi everyone!
Avatar 8:21pm
Bethany Ryker:

Martinů - bit of an oddball; love so much of what he wrote; collisions of traditional forms and modern influences. Glad you like it, Jeff!

P-90:

Martinu in 1929 sounded a lot like some of the things L. Bernstein would do decades later

I've been away - fill me in, what does the radio icon mean? My guess was that it was it meant that the listener was listening via our terrestial FM frequencies, but we wouldn't be reaching the wool sock domain of Vermont ;)

Joe stalvey:

Have been wanting to see something at either venue for a while. There are actually too many cool choices in upstate for about 70 days each summer. Really enjoying your show tonight.

Left hand? are you referring to Leon Fleisher? He lost use of his right hand in the '60s and focused on left-hand repertoire. He regained use of his right hand in the 1990s.
Avatar 8:35pm
Bethany Ryker:

Left hand pianist who had many compositions dedicated to him was indeed Paul Wittgenstein, thanks @unpopularized for jogging my memory. He lost his right arm in WWI.

Good amount of info at en.wikipedia.org...

It does, doesn't it, Jack....was actually 1710, I made a typo on the playlist and have since fixed it. Fortunately that piece hasn't been taken over by a jewelry commercial like so many of Vivaldi's other works (so far as I know!)
