Didn't know Les Paul & Mary Ford recorded stuff like this. I only know Les Paul from his speeded up guitar. Play their singles on 33-rpm or 16-rpm and you probably get the speed it was recorded. But this cover is by far the best track I've ever heard from them.

I am really enjoying the show today.

That Nilsson song reminds me of "Midnight Cowboy." Especially the ending where Ratzo Rizzo dies on the bus to Florida and Joe Buck breaks down and hugs him and cries.

Something about this particular Bee Gees track is reminiscent of an Alan Parsons composition/production.

Also, anyone remember your parents debating whether Divine was a man or not? My parents didn't believe it.

Ooh, dig this Singsiri track.
  3:47pm

@statoj: They watched lots of talk shows and watched whatever movie appeared on TV. So this was when "Hairspray" made it mainstream and many people were first exposed to Divine.
Avatar 3:47pm

This Onuma song sounds like a parallel Thai universe if a Brecht/Weil musical.

During the last Kink convention in NL we got Dave Berry singing this with The Kast Off Kinks feat. a couple of Kinks-members (Mick Avory, Kohn Dalton)
Avatar 3:50pm

@Jake,
Well I confess that when I saw the "other" male role that Divine plays in Hairspray I realized that I had forgotten he was a man. As a man his face is kind of crooked but as a woman he just looks very Baltimore. (Having lived there 20 yrs, I am allowed to say that.)
  3:52pm
modchick65:

Ok. The Ramones "Pet Cemetery" is seriously the song that is going to make me start crying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm
joe:

This is the song that introduced me to the Ramones when I was 13 years old.
  3:53pm
Listener Robert:

I've always liked the song, but could someone please explain if there's some metaphoric meaning to "I don't want to be buried in a pet cemetery"?
  3:54pm
JakeGould:

@joe: You were introduced to the Ramones at your Bar Mitzvah? What wonderful and joyous day to become a man!
Avatar 3:54pm
Rob Kopp:

The Ramones and a synthesizer just doesn't fit together
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm

It was because the movie was about being buried in a Pet Cemetery and coming back to life.

  3:55pm
Listener Robert:

So I gather, joe, but is that all just an indirect way of singing, "My life sucks"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm

No I think it was meant to be literal reference to the fact that the character did not want to come back to life as a zombie.

A guy in my office went as Art Garfunkel for Halloween. He was wearing black pants, a black turtleneck, a grey blazer, and a curly wig. I was like, "Who are you?" He told me, "Art Garfunkel." Me: "I thought you were the guy from the Man From UNCLE."

One of Art Garfunkel's post S&G projects was walking across the U.S., but not at once. He'd go for a while, fly home, then fly back to that spot a few months later and continue the process.

I'd wager that no other DJ on the planet has segued Megadeth into Kero Kero Bonito!

@James From Westwood I remember me and my metal head friends being infuriated when the evil MTV used that loop. Funny part is it's one of only maybe 3 songs I like/tolerate from Megadeth.

Odessey & Oracle by The Zombies and The Village Green Preservation Society by The Kinks, both from 1968, are 2 of the most underrated albums by British bands

In high school my geometry professor was really into pro wresting and ozzy osbourne. I spent lots of time after school with him working on homework and as a result also became obsessed with Ozzy. I listened to this song over and over and over again for at least a year...thanks for refreshing the memories of freshman year!

...I think Oracle has long been rising slowly but largely in recognition
- & Village Green still waits for broader notice.
(Parts of Oracle were the 1st things done in AbbeyRd.II after Sgt.Pepper - & VillageGreen was released same day as the White Album...)
