From their site (www.ilandart.org), it looks like this company doesn't travel much if at all. So my seeing Jennifer Monson's work in France looks unlikely

Mr. Fine Wine:

Thanks, Doug. I knew Zeena's younger sisters M and S. Haven't been in touch with any of them since about 1975. They lived on the next street over in Detroit. Hampton, a small Detroit public elementary school, was a hotbed of musical talent. Besides the Parkins sisters: Regina Carter, Derrick May, John Idan (Yardbirds frontman for the past 20-odd years), all around the same time.

gosh, I saw Zeena Parkins with Fred Frith and Tom Cora, must have been 25+ years ago, in Seattle

"Elbow Piano" makes me think of the wonderful LA pianist Carl Perkins. Perkins had polio and played with his left arm parallel to the keyboard. He used his elbow to hit the bass notes. 1.bp.blogspot.com...

The path into that building sounds like some dreams I've had: wandering thru old, huge schools, trying to find classrooms, lockers, exits....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm
fred:

@james: did you start having these dreams before or after seeing Spinal Tap?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
listener james from westwood:

Heh, before! They started with high school; didn't see it until 1st year of college. But that had to have added grist to the mental mill.

I was using a "Wond" on a piano just last week - a Wond is something like an E-Bow, but it tunes itself (or at least tries) to the excited object's harmonics.

@Henry: nice resonance with Doug's first comment

Weinstein's fluency in the subcultures of New York City's avant garde music scene is beyond compare
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm

@Doug: if someone based a knitting pattern on WFMU programming, that could make for a unique sweater
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
