Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Parq:

Nice Jason R. clip. I saw a production of 1000 Clowns while living in an apartment complex outside Boston, and shouted out the window at my neighbors for weeks afterward.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Charlie:

Hi there, Henry! don't know that one...

1,.000 Clowns is a great movie! I used to have the script in High School.
  12:18pm Katya Oddio:

As ever, great theme, Charlie! WAIT!!! I was totally thinking about Vivien Goldman, but didn't know if it would fit musically. It does, and here she is! Love when that happens, Charlie!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Charlie:

Hola, Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Parq:

What Roberto said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Charlie:

That song I played is a ditty I made up to sing while doing the house work. The first line is: "It's only once a week, the housework must get done." Never wrote the rest of the lyrics though!
  1:05pm Katya Oddio:

Saw recently you can now get this classic LP in pink vinyl on Bandcamp:

Say It Ain't So!
(another returning student, best of luck, Charlie!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Webhamster Henry:

I sing this little song to myself, which I hear in my head in the voice of Citizen Kafka:

The Happy Launderer

I just ran out of underwear, my socks have all turned black,
And so I throw them in a bag and throw it on my back!

CHORUS:
Launderee! Launderei! Launderee! Launder-ah-hah-hah-hah-hah-hah
Launderee! Launderei! My laundry on my back!

I am a Happy Launderer, and laundry's what I've got!
I've got a roll of quarter to shove in that little slot!

CHORUS

I do not care to separate the coloreds from the whites.
This is because I spend my life supporting Civil Rights!

CHORUS
Avatar 1:23pm βrian:

Oh my. Another inductee! Second-generation librarian here.
  1:23pm Katya Oddio:

Go get 'em, Charlie! That sounds excellent! Exciting news!
Avatar 1:24pm Michael:

Exciting indeed Charlie. But you will be missed. Again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Webhamster Henry:

Good luck Charlie!
  1:26pm Katya Oddio:

You introduced us to Jim Copp and every time he comes up in rotation here, we tip the hat to you. Jim and Ed are dear to us (and so are you), and we get a lot of mileage out of these LPs and CDs. Thank you, Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Charlie:

Henry! I love those lyrics! I should've got a recording of you singing it:)
Avatar 1:27pm βrian:

Charlie is going meta!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Charlie:

ßrian -- my father taught library science for twenty years. He'd be happy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm schmutz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Webhamster Henry:

@Charlie Kafka and the Wretched Refuse String Band would have made it a very special song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Charlie:

yes, Henry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Charlie:

Thanks for the good wishes, everyone:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Webhamster Henry:

The Bathrooms Are Coming is full of great Deep Cuts. Proximatics and UltraBath!
  1:32pm Doug Schulkind:

When I'm not weeping, I'm really happy for you, Charlie...

When I first conceived the idea for Give the Drummer Radio, inviting Charlie to join me was my first priority. Busy Doing Nothing was the second-ever program on the Drummer Stream and it instantly converted a goofy vanity project into an honorable radio/stream experiment.

Charlie's contributions to the stream may be less immediately audible, but I will continue to lean on Charlie for guidance, advice and brotherhood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Charlie:

Doug! "Your My Brother"! (sic) That's the name of the album playing, and you are my brother:) Glad I could help kick-start, or boot-strap, (or whatever other trendy catch-phrase (like "catch-phrase") we could use) the stream -- which has turned into such a wonderful thing!
Avatar 1:36pm Roberto:

Crap, I missed it. What's happening with Charlie?
  1:36pm Katya Oddio:

You rock, Doug. Thank you for getting Charlie back in the fold, man. Those guest appearances were too few and far between. Also grateful for the WFMU show archive. Been working Thursdays and missing the shows. Can't beat catching live ones. You guys are the best.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm doctorjazz:

Ahhh, loved Wretched Refuse, have their album at home!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm doctorjazz:

Will REALLY miss the show, hope you can sub often, Charlie!
Avatar 1:37pm Michael:

Also, does this looming absence mean Charlie moves to another New England state?
  1:38pm Doug Schulkind:

Katya, send me an email when you get a chance...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Charlie:

Michael -- I will be doing an online MLS program. Don't have to leave my chair:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Charlie:

Love the Wretched Refuse versions of Tossin' and Turnin' and Thumbelina...
  1:41pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Webhamster Henry:

Heading off to my Human Behavior and Gerontology class. Big love to you, Brother Charlie, and to the big, beautiful family of Notgingdoers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm doctorjazz:

Went to Brooklyn College with some of the Wretched Refuse crew, used to see them in the day...Their guitar player also built and repaired guitars, did some work for me on an injured Martin.

Avatar 1:51pm Roberto:

I used to sing this line to my daughter to get her up for school.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Charlie:

Hey Matt! Yeah, it's a "classic"
Is that chicken gonna dance today or what?
  1:58pm Katya Oddio:

Matt, their move to Portland definitely impacted my listening. They were a kiddie lifeline.
Avatar 2:00pm Michael:

Lotsa fun Charlie - thanks!
  2:00pm Katya Oddio:

Now it sounds like we are losing the best again. Charlie has probably impacted my record purchasing habits more than any other DJ. Thanks for the squeaky clean show, Charlie!
