Hello Jeff and sensation seekers.

How do, @Doug! Dave in Vermont! Brian in UK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am
Doug Schulkind:

More good news: Our dog was terrified of stairs at first, too. We thought she was scared of the slippery bare-wood steps, but it was really just about her conquering a fear of the unknown. My advice: Use treats. The desire for a succulent nibble usually overcomes all!
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 9:08am

Jeff, any thoughts on Kyle Eastwood?

Oh Doug, a succulent nibble conquers all.

Thanks, Doug. That's good to hear. Treats...and patience, I think. The latter will be harder to come by.

@Brian: imagine a blank thought bubble. I am ig'nant; do tell!

@Brian: The venue sucked (too much hostile security) and I was disappointed by Wolf Eyes, but Scorpion Violente were good and different than usual, which made their set great in my book

Ooof it really sucks how the security staff can ruin an evening, @fred. Haven't encountered that in a looong while.

Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 9:21am
fred:

I also understand that in the current climate, having security to prevent people from talking loudly outside is the only way to avoid neighbor complaints and keep the venue open. But making me throw away a small water bottle I needed to take meds, even though they were not selling water inside, ruined the first set for me. I complained to one of the organizers, and he went backstage and gave me one. These are good people

Hey Fred, mixed reviews for the show last night, but seems to have worked out OK in the end. I saw a play, Sweat", pretty good, though it was undermiked and hard to catch muchof the dialog. Pretty well done attempt to capture the plight of the laid off factory worker, though the cynic could also see it as a way to assuage liberal guilt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am
Jeff Golick:

@Doug: I'd buy that. Btw, I've tried to read Feynman's Six Easy Pieces. My verdict: not so easy.

@doctorjazz: Sounds nice, but I'm afraid I don't get theater. Too many words. Though I saw a dance show by Ambra Senatore last week that featured many words, but that somehow didn't bother me
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:17am

I didn't do much theater until relatively recently, but having an actress daughter got the interest going. (my wife is also a big musical theater fan).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am

The compression/clipping on this viola track is either intentional...or just a bad recording. It's not your set-up.

Avatar 10:25am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Reading Artaud's 'Theater & It's Double' from 1938 or such (about when Robert Johnson summed up PreWar Blues for export) - I felt that Rawk culture was (as a spontaneous reaction) basically the fulfillment of what he thot Theatre would have to be to really be relevant in these Times (he expounded on Light & Sound a great deal) - altho', he did wish for a specific well-developed & defined Language of these sensual elements...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am

One choreographer/dancer whose work often incorporates music and musicians (dancing with their instruments!) in a captivating way is Yoshiko Chuma and her School of Hard Knocks. I recommend seeking out her work.

Speaking of dance, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker will have a stretched out performance of an earlier piece at MoMA next week. I saw the original work and parts of the museum performance, I think it's worth spending some time there: www.moma.org...

@fred, I am mourning that which is too geographically and financially distant. When I was falling in love with dance I used to watch this De Keersmaeker video that was set in some abandoned warehouse. I got to see her company once or twice. Along with Marie Chouinard she is the tippy top for me.
