Evening Sam, evening all. Gil-Scott spot on
Avatar 9:09pm
Scraps:

Resist. Resist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm
Sam Segal:

Hi, @LD and @Scraps! This song will be the anthem in the post-Trump deprogramming camps we spend our summers at from 2020 on!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:15pm
Uncle Michael:

How about Elvis Costello's "B-Movie"?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:20pm
Little Danny:

You'll be spared the acne this second time around
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm
Sam Segal:

Never heard that one, @UM!
Thank goodness for that, @LD. If only the good lord would spare me from this Holden Caulfield-eque compulsion to call everyone and everything "phony."
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:27pm
Little Danny:

Haha, oh man, been there

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm
Sam Segal:

Sorry, @UM. For a moment there I confused that song with this: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...
Avatar 9:50pm
Scraps:

B-Movie is one of those great, tossed-off songs that Costello used to litter his albums and bonus tracks with. i'm not one of those "he used to" Costello fans, but boy, in the early eighties he was magical (imo)
Avatar 9:51pm
Scraps:

b-movie specifically was a great lyric, wrapped around two-minute song
Avatar 9:54pm
still b/p:

Just in time for non-phony saxophoney bedlam!
Avatar 9:58pm
Scraps:

Huh, Yevgeny Yevtushenko died. I didn't know he was still alive....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm
Sam Segal:

Heya, @sbp! No more phony saxophoney, that's my campaign promise to you.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:04pm
Uncle Michael:

I'm with you, Scraps.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:14pm
Little Danny:

This Fussell is lovely. Jimmy Lee Williams also does a hypnotic blues version of "Peaches."
Avatar 10:14pm
Scraps:

Dannie Richmond maybe did more non-Mingus than you think. George Adams/Don Pullen Quartet (lots), Booker Ervin, Zoot Sims, Mal Waldron, Ted Curson.

But yeah, he was famous for Mingus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
Sam Segal:

Woah, had no idea he played with Zoot Sims, thanks for the tip @Scraps. Gotta brush up on my Richmond discography.
Avatar 10:17pm
Scraps:

It's true also that he did people who maybe he met through Mingus (I don't know, but lost of Mingus-associated people there)

When I was in New York and did some amateur singing (mostly through my late wife, a much much better singer than I) in piano bars (Rose's Turn, etc), my signature tune (if I can say it that way, my inside-head is rolling its eyes at me) was Political Science.
  10:41pm
Carmichael:

Heya Sam, I'm here for you!
  10:43pm
Carmichael:

Btw, reading Costello's biography right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
Sam Segal:

Oh, wow, I love that, @Scraps. I used to be heavily involved in the piano karaoke scene here in Minneapolis. Wish I'd had the wherewithal to sing that number.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks for swinging by @Carmichael!
Avatar 10:50pm

I saw Music from Memory is reissuing the amazing Denis Mpunga & Paul K. record Criola!

Any time, Sammy.

Ha! Just looked for a local guy I know in the Dem Socialist Party, and landed on a site that tries to knock 'em down and point out suspicions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm

Whadya think, folks? Is this the real deal? www.dsausa.org
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
Sam Segal:

Oh yeah, @SBP? What were the critiques?
Avatar 11:02pm
Scraps:

At first I read Kevin Reynolds's album "Fembehyahget" as "Fuhgettaboutit"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
Sam Segal:

Hahaha, I did the exact same thing, @Scraps.
Avatar 11:09pm
still b/p:

Quick snipey hits: "Why is he using a state/taxpayer funded email address?"(.edu)
"Hmmm, could the name “Acorn Productions” just be an odd coincidence?" ...it refers to a local theater outfit; not even odd, just meaningless coincidence -- maybe the the line is a joke. I haven't looked further at the conservative site to see what their fleshier take or attack is on Maine DSA platform or principles. The state DSA does have a Facebook page if you want to sniff it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
Sam Segal:

I've sniffed the online presence of their MN chapter, but I can't pick up a strong scent one way or the other.

This is superlative recorder music. For more, do not miss Rene Clemencic et ses flutes on Harmonia Mundi. I promise, you'll love it.

I think there's a track on this record where you can hear crickets outside the barn he's recording in if I'm not mistaken?
Avatar 11:59pm

thank you!
