First Vocal Fry of Spring! (Or anyway, the first one that feels like Spring.)
  7:07pm
tomasz.:

i love Pharoah deeply but must confess i've always felt a tad ambiguous about this chap's yodelling
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm
Dan Bodah:

Hi all! Spring definitely here.

Aa-Shuu Dekei-Oo was the first Tuvan song I ever heard, on the PA at a Tower Records (remember Tower Records? ...remember records??) in Philadelphia. I immediately ran and bought the CD.

Ken From Hyde Park:

Hmm...seems like the Pharaoh Sanders song has a separate entry in the clicky-star database as the one from Marty McSorley's show. Probably true for many songs.

Oh, I get it..."Chilling Bear" is the sequel to "Running Bare".

it hit 79 in the hudson valley - swarms of those gnatty type flying thingees were all over the place. garden snakes are out as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
Dan Bodah:

Ah yes @ranjit, so many good records lived at Tower back in the day. @Ken, I think songs get duplicated in the Clicky-Star Database (tm) when there are even little differences like different capitalization...

Hey! Hi DJ Haze, good to hear your voice!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm
dale:

what's the relationship between alpine yodeling and c&w yodeling? did the country artists like elton britt just 'borrow' it?
  7:32pm
Cooh John:

Say ahh.

BriJet:

Hi Dan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm
Dan Bodah:

@BriJet, heya! @dale, I'm not sure it was simply borrowed and not separately sourced, but there's a whole two books by Bart Plantenga about yodel!

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@dale: I think the wigkey for Yodeling has some background: en.wikipedia.org...

Bart P. had a great show on FMU in the 90s, too. He's still wrecking it here: www.mixcloud.com...

dale:

thnks guys - i have some homework to do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
Dan Bodah:

I should say that I am very indebted to Bart's show and books
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I was thinking about what other sounds could make the Vocal Fry and I thought of gargling. The Beat Farmers did that years ago (for one verse, anyway). That and hog-calling contests. Yell-as-loud-as-you-can contests, too.

Thanks and Happy Frying!

Dan B:

@Ken, great suggestions! Thanks. Esp the gargling! I have played a hog calling competition from the Iowa State Fair and also the Finnish Shouting Choir (Mieskuoro Huutajat) & hakas from New Zealand in the shouting front, but that's an area I need to revisit as well.
