Hiya, Irwin, and attending Chusdians.

My theory: if it isn't like it used to be, go back in time and take an undistracted second look.

Listening Out There:

Slowdive sounds a bit similar to Swan Dive...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
Irwin:

The name sounds like Swan Dive, but their music sounds more like Aussie shoegazers Flyying Colours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
Passaic River Blues:

@Irwin: Yes! Flyying Colours-esque for serious.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
Hoboken Jack:

Good to see you, Fredericks! It's your old favorite phone room volunteer Jack.

Just think of it as Blues for people who play *rillly* well. It's no big deal - in a way...in another way, it's the AfricanAmerican Classic Music & it *is* intimidating & should be...

What ever became of Johnny Hates Jazz?

I've long tried to not like jazz, but I've never been able to pull it off. And just now I ordered Song for My Father.
Avatar 4:14pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@A Coward: That video: How is Jazz like Yuppie Hipster (Yipster??) honky middleclass stuff people only pretend to like? As if Jazz sells anywhere?
  4:26pm
Marie:

Irwin, thank you so much for playing Joe Frank shows!!!!! How is he doing?
  4:27pm
Anonymous Coward:

Oh I dunno. I wasnt trying to say anything. I like jazz. i just always thought that video was funny. More for Kate Micucci trumpet impersonation than anything else.

Although if I had to try and support the argument that there is some kind of hipster jazz thing going on I would probably point to Bad Bad Not Good getting tapped to back Gostface Killa and also showing up in popular tv shows.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm

Al wrote and recorded the soundtrack for the film The Landlord. 1970 or '72, IIRC.

Record cover says only "keyboards." Searched music and news databases, too. No mention of ondioline. But there's a great article in NYT, Nov. 5, '68, with headline, "Jam Sessions Gain Popularity With Rock Artists Across U.S." Mentions Kooper, Bloomfield, Prokop. Kooper compares jamming to "study hall. You learn a lot from it."

How nice to have soothing tunes before the chaos of 7SD

Came home, settled in on the porch to wait for the rain, with a short smoke and a cup of coffee. Irwin makes it perfect. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm

On the heels of Kooper founding BS&T, Prokop launched Lighthouse, another first-gen horn-rock band.
