I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Hello Mayuko and all. It's in the high 80's here, ice cream weather

Count count count me in! How do, all!

Hello, james and fred! Thanks for tuning in! I'm in need of ice cream! Although it's not exactly hot here in NY/NJ today.

HI Mayuko! this cut sounds like what Joshua Fried does every Saturday at 10:30 on WGXC (stream it) Radio Wonderland!

Hi Henry! Meaning he plays a lot of sound collage?

And of course my own chop-ups of eavesdropped cell phone calls that I did in the 90s. mosaic.echonyc.com...

Or taking phone calls on the air and asking people if they're calmed down?

I let no weather dictate my cravings for ice cream! It's year round!

Hello, Doug!!!!!!

Josh live mixes radio from other radio stations through his system. Some people have been playing his record SEIZE THE MEANS on WFMU, at least when it came out .

As our new morning host Clay would say, always remember: ice cream is what kept Kogarashi Monjiro and Basho Matsuo from beating each other to a pulp

Sounds interesting, I'll check it out, Henry! Thanks for the link.

Hello, Jesse!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
fred:

Speaking of memories, I saw Afrirampo again this week! I loved it. Oni joked to those who said we were there eleven years ago about how we grew old together, saying they're 33 and 34.
There was also Keiji Haino with Merzbow and Balazs Pandi on that bill, that was meh at best. Puce Mary too, her set was pretty cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm
listener james from westwood:

Jesse, I was just thinking of your show in re: this grindy goodness.

Hi, all. I had a dream the other night where for whatever reason, the table was very tall, like ten feet. Climbing up the chair to eat caused me a little dream vertigo.

Hola, mzzm! My mood is always like ice cream, all year round like james said! Hello, NGH, glad you liked it too! Happy cleaning, Dave B!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
listener james from westwood:

One possible bummer of Clay getting the morning slot: Fewer Clay–Fabio confabs. Unless of course Clay stays late or lives close enough to pop in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm
fred:

I was too shy/impressed to talk to them, but they came back to listen to the last set, mixing with the audience. I really liked that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm
northguineahills:

When I first saw Afriampo in 2004, they really hit off w/ my musician friend, dj firehorse. He went back to Japan w/ them after their North American tour, and hung out w/ them for three months in Japan. He came back w/ a lot of cool recordings, including field recording of rural Japan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
fred:

Also, that show reminded me of your east/west talk: Afrimrampo all colorful, Merzbow and Keiji Haino all in black
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm
fred:

It took me 20 years before I managed to read Finnegan's Wake cover to cover. Don't ask me what it's about. I still like to read a few pages at random, as I did before. I like it better that way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
listener james from westwood:

FW was the work from which particle physicists adopted the term "quark," wasn't it?
Avatar 1:06pm

Speaking of Osaka - this is fully Osaka-dialect song singing about Osaka.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
fred:

Are you really doing an all-Okinawa show with Rob? When?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm
fred:

That Ahmed Malek track sent me into a frustrating google rabbit hole
Avatar 1:16pm
Mayuko:

@james particle physicists! That is very much what I would picture to be the reader who REALLY enjoy that book.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
fred:

Well, I've been giving another try to Beckett lately, I don't know who enjoys that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm
fred:

Also, I love Ulysses
Avatar 1:21pm
Mayuko:

@fred not sure yet, think I'll find out the date when Rob is back from vacation. Perhaps in the summer. Hope it really happens!
I think Beckett is very funny! Though I'm only familiar with his novels, not plays.
Avatar 1:23pm
Mayuko:

The only James Joyce I could handle was Dubliners.
Avatar 1:26pm
Mayuko:

It says here that Ahmed Malek was an Algerian film score composer. Flako, a Berlin based composer, added some compositions to some unreleased/unfinished demo sort of things which Ahmed had left.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
fred:

I'm into a classics phase reading-wise there days: Brontë sisters and bell hooks, that kind of stuff. Though I plan to read Colson Whitehead's essay/book about poker (because I've read everything else) and the book Trouble promoted about women in the Black Panther party
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm
tmoyo:

The only one I read is A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. I tried Ulysses but couldn’t get past the first 20 pages or so… Although I found the Japanese translations of James Joyce books amusing, playing with purely Japanese words that has little to do with the original context for the sake of recreating the sound and feel of the book. I guess those kinds of books are only translatable like cover versions of a song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
fred:

@tmoyo: Ulysses is hard at first, it takes you a while to get into its rhythm, but I think it's worth it, because it's all getting better from there. Pynchon is also notoriously hard to get through the first pages, but it's worth it too, for totally different reasons
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm
tmoyo:

OK, ill give it a try fred... Pynchon, I read! Gravity's Rainbow, V & Vineland, but can't say I fully understood it. But there's a sort of "catchy" sentimentality to its story and characters that is relatable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm
tmoyo:

I also like Pynchon's cinematic vision as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm
fred:

@tmoyo: if you got through the slow start to Gravity's rainbow, you can handle more than 20 pages of Ulysses! Pynchon's latest too novels are more to the point, good ones too. As always, I'll recommend you check out Colson Whitehead
Avatar 1:50pm
Mayuko:

@tmoyo It really is like cover versions of a song! It's recreation of the idea & concepts, not the very experience of actually reading the original.
(& hello!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
tmoyo:

@fred: I'll check it out. thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm

Loving the show as always Mayuko! Experiencing & interpreting... I was thinking about those things after your mike break talk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm

@tmoyo: either the first and last if you're into stories (The Intuitionist and The Underground Railroad) or John Henry Days if you're more into style

I sent "Ko Re Y Ba I" 3 times-the last was by tracking mail" on the APR 20th. Where is "Ko Re Ya Ba I"?

Avatar 2:23pm

Malloo san, sorry to hear that the mails went missing. But if the last one says it arrived, then the music director should have it. Sometimes it just takes time to be checked and go into our new bin due to many items arriving at once. I'm always happy to see your stuff coming in, thanks for sending them!

Thank you very much! The goole search couldn't show it.
