Finishing up Flash's show from last night in the archives (that was a great show!), will be done just in time for the Drumming class. Hi all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50am Doug Schulkind:

@ausmanx
It is an ignorance you share with billions of others. See the title to today's playlist: "Rest in peace, John P. "Johnny Daye" DiBucci." Johnny Daye was a largely unknown soul singer who had a career that lasted less than three years.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Doug Schulkind:

  10:03am Mark Williams:

@ausmanx - re Wackies vs. Perry, I think you'll find that there are definitely "Wackies heads" out there, almost on a par with the Black Ark/Perry heads. What I would merely point to is the fact that Perry's career pre-dated Black Ark by a full decade, and included many influential productions (and vocals) from 1968-74, all of which pre-date the Black Ark years. Unmissable, of course, is Perry's productions of what some consider to be Marley's/Wailer's best work. And frankly, musicians and singers would speak reverently about Perry in a manner that no other producer in Jamaica managed to engender. I think Perry is a Top 3 figure in the history of Jamaican music.

UM, i'll catch the archive, it's time for elevenses and a good book out in the sun!

'salright. I can hear it in my mind's ear almost round the clock, but without the distress of an ear worm. Took a while to shake a compounded ear worm earlier this week. A theme from the first movement of the first Brahms string sextet kept playing in my upstairs, interrupted randomly by Little Feat's "Willing." Almost had to call 911.

Enjoy the fresh air, annie.

Fascinating to hear all of these Daye sides together, Doug.

A friend the other day said the 70s were great for music. A former coworker used to say we were ripped off and screwed musically because we came of age in the 70s. Parallaxical facts of musical life and history.

I've actually been from Tucson to Tucumcari.

Oh, crap, now it's gonna start all over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Doug Schulkind:

@Little Danny
Amazing to comprehend that this amounts to Johnny's ENTIRE recording career.

Janet Jackson covered "What'll I Do..." in 1993.
  11:52am Listener Gregory:

I'm embarrassed to admit that I had never heard of Johnny Daye before now. So, thanks, Doug.

I had never heard of Daye before about a year ago when I purchased a comp of rare Stax singles. Johnny's amazing "Stay Baby Stay," which will close today's show, was on that comp.

The Otis connection is really obvious on I Need Somebody.
Great show, great weekend all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Doug Schulkind:

Next up is Johnny's "I Love Love." I'd like to think that Razzy's wonderful anthem, "I Hate Hate" is somehow connected...

@ dean -- Guess what the www in web addresses really stands for.
