Hi All! Happy Thursday!!! Excited to bring Tony Levin's interview to ya at 1pm. @VPriceless, I did NOT get a chance to ask him your most excellent question, because of time constraints... but it's still a pretty good talk! :) THANKS!!

Will have to listen to Tony interview on archive. For some reason, in addition to Gabriel and KC, I think of Burt Bacharach among his many gigs.

Great to have KFM back on the "air."

What would make me so happy, well not really happy, just make me feel better about myself -- is if Tony Levin is this nerdy, dweeb with a high pitch voice, and has a personality sort of like Paul Lynd. He is an imposing figure - looks like he's about 6 foot five, with a shaved head, wow. An incredible musician. Wow. The best bassist on the planet.

@v_priceless. I KNOW! He HAS to be like that - if he sounds anything like he looks. As far as an accent I think he's from the US. But still - if his voice sounds like how he plays bass he'll have the voice of a god - because he is a god of bass and stick - and makes all us "normal" musicians (non-stars) look very very pathetically normal. ;(

@Tom and others, I can't wait for you to hear him! He was very generous with his answers, knows he's a badass but is not obnoxious or arrogant at all. No dweebness, either! You'll chuckle in the beginning a little bit tho... :) I suspect that he is just so genuine that all of his interviews could last for hours.
  12:52pm

@diane. Of course. Exactly as I suspected. ;) I'm glad you're the one who is doing the interview! You rock Diane!

@Diane-so STOKED you have Tony Levin and played King Crimson. Thank you!
Avatar 1:21pm
Diane Kamikaze:

The beginning of the interview was about the lineup and playing live and the aspects of having 3 drummers, etc.
Avatar 1:27pm
Fox (Rā-chul):

This is such a great interview. He's clearly unfamiliar with WFMU or he wouldn't be shocked at the level of questions you are asking him.
Avatar 1:29pm
Wild Neil:

@Polyus-I saw Peter Gabriel in Syracuse in 86 or 87...I did not know Tony Levin played with him! Was it the Sledgehammer tour?? Its all kinda fuzzy, it was the 80's, I was pretty high on pot.

Avatar 1:31pm

Avatar 1:31pm
V Priceless:

@ Wild N: Tony has played w/PG since PG started doing solo gigs...circa '78

Fabulous interview, Diane! Great stuff! Woo!
Avatar 1:31pm
Diane Kamikaze:

I know that he played on every PG record, and I would assume that he was probably on each tour as well. As Vincent Priceless told me to ask him - he was with PG when they opened for the Stranglers at Battersea Park in 1978 - the infamous gig with the strippers and the tank. I didn't have time to ask him!
Avatar 1:32pm
Diane Kamikaze:

@Ra-chul! YES! I thought it was funny the way he explained that he was the bass player early ... of course what I meant was - fretted/fretless/stick/upright, etc., because we know he has quite an arsenal. So who lives in Woodstock /Kingston where he does to hip him to WFMU? :)

Fox (Rā-chul):

Nick - Part of what becomes a curse as much as a blassing, is that in NYC/NJ there are so many shows that it becomes depressingly easy to miss out on amazing performances on a regular basis because there's just no way to keep track of it all. (even if you look at the WFMU arbitrary guide)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
coelacanth∅:

i managed to hear only a few scattered bits of that interview (is work a "reason beyond my control"?) i'm psyched to hear the archive now. Tony sounded like a great guy - as well as a Great guy! ...and his voice reminds me of Joe McGasco!

@BLCKDGRD no he didnt. The couple of times that he mentioned Fripp as the leader/boss and his vagueness about the release, I figured he was not involved in the process and to ask would just invite conjecture. I dropped a couple of questions because of that
