In the 60's there was a famous TV-show in Holland that was watched by both children (like me) and parents. All the songs in it were written by Annie M.G. Schmidt. One of the songs was Wilt u een stekkie? (Do you want a loot?). A loot of the plant the Fuchsia. An the refrain went: of the Fuch Fuch Fuchsia. Everybody was singing, but I bet noone realized what he/she was singing.

One of those tracks (3rd or 4th?) was like vintage Shirelles. All classic stuff as 60s girl-group is a genre of its own!! Ashamed to say I wasn't familiar with this gentleman. Sheila, it's heartwarming to know the 60s is your favorite decade. I lived through all the music the first time around and it's like one of Holland/Dozier/Holland said in a documentary - and I'm paraphrasing "It's like God said let's take all the melody and all the harmony, and all the rhythm and rhyme and give it to the 60s." Thanks for a wonderful program on a wonderful radio station, Sheila B.

@Modchick TAKE OFF THE HOODIE!!! My cousin, in Vancouver, drives pop stars who visit around. He once drove onto the runway at the airport to pick up The Diamond from his private plane. He'd worked for him before. The Diamond got off the plane, got into my cousin's car and said: "Is that cigar shop still open? Let's go there" And off they went! He was a real gent, incidentally.
  5:15pm
modchick65:

@TheContessa. No. I literally got a ticket yesterday morning (for the show yesterday night). It was Madison Square Garden and the tickets ranged from $39.50 (behind the stage) to, like, $600. I opted to pay $50 for a ticket in the nosebleed section right next to the stage... but there were no stacks, so it was a clear side view. The section was empty and I went up (away from my seat) even higher and chilled and just watched the show and the whole of MSG. As far as I'm concerned, I had the best seat in the house.

In college, my friends and I watched The Cure's "Disintegration" tour like that. The Philly Spectrum was 1/2 full and no one was in the higher seats, so we all just ditched our seats and went up there and chilled. Really great way to watch a show. It's also really funny when you think the now-legendary "Disintegration" tour was that empty and the next tour the place was sold out. Of course, I would have rather seen Head On The Door... anyway.
