Howard F:

Picked up Cohran's On the Beach last week having no idea he passed away. They were playing it at the record store, and I picked it up on the spot. I googled him and realized he died the previous day, what a bummer :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am
Jeff Golick:

Yeah, that's tough to find a new thing only to realize that it's gone. Something from that album coming up, btw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am
Jeff Golick:

That said, seems like you have a hip record store nearby?
Avatar 9:51am
Howard F:

Thanks Jeff. I picked it up at Good Records in the East Village. Found an original copy of Maggot Brain there a few months ago. They have some great stuff there, but my first destination is Academy on 12th.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am
Jeff Golick:

Wait, the EV still has good (Good) record stores? I'll be damned.

I think WFMU's own Jeff Conklin works at Academy.
Avatar 9:58am
Howard F:

Yes! I usually see him at the Greenpoint locale. He's turned me on to some amazing stuff. He also works at 12th street. Where do you like to shop?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am
Jeff Golick:

Sadly, I don't really hit the stores anymore. Once Other Music closed, I just stopped going. I was pretty much purely digital at that point, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am
Doug Schulkind:

That Nick Mazzarella/Tomeka Reid performance was huge. As is this historic Cohran creation. Serving my mood muchly.

I had the chance to go to OM the time I went to NY and I must say it was great precisely because they didn't seem to want to capitalyze on the vinyl resurgence. They could be a Rough Trade, but they weren't.
Avatar 10:20am

@doca: I see your point, I guess having managed a record store for a few years myself, I always think maybe I could've made it work?

Signing off. Great show! Will definitely tune in again!!
  10:28am
doca:

@Howard: yes, it seems the odds are always against you if you have a small business. In their case, the odds were greater against OM because of its location. It might seem naïve, but it's nice they didn't take the easy route into "sell out".

@Brian: it's great. New city, new job, lots of stuff to keep me busy, besides dishwashing! And you?

However, some go by the actual stars & constellations, which shift position because the Earth wobbles on its axis. This is 'Sidereal'. India's Astrology is sidereal...
