Duane, you ever hear Dennis Brown's version of this when he was in his teens?

Hello Duane and the 'iacs! First off, I want to give board props for the supreme hookup on the EW&F/Chic show! Second, Barry White's gotta be on production for the Tom Brock record, right?
Avatar 12:24pm

Barry White, Exec. Producer?

PKNY: SO happy to spread the love to y'all and YEs that's Gene Page and Barry white at the helms of this TOm Brock..'74

PKNY: Ed Greene is one of my favorite funkiest white boys. His stickwork was on all of those White productions and he's one of my faves of all time..

@Blue trippy birb!
Avatar 12:31pm

Ed Greene - groovemeister for sure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm

Also solid jazz chops, played on some electric Blue Note sessions in the early '70s

Good tip, Little Danny - sounds like a good rabbit hole to jump down!

Loving the show as always, Duane T, keep it comin' up!
Avatar 12:50pm
PKNY:

@Duane - don't think I ever knew the names of any of the players on Barry's records, don't think he ever had extensive liner notes. The high-hat and snare sound on that was instantly recognizable, so props to Ed Greene!
Avatar 12:51pm
PKNY:

Just did a quick search, it appears that Ed Greene played on Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy"!

Prince Paul guest appearance -- awesome!
Avatar 12:54pm
PKNY:

#OHSNAP. Like the Duane Train ain't already must-listen radio, having Paul in the house will be next level.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm
Passaic River Blues:

Prince Paul is one of the greats, man. Prepare yourself for shameless Ultramagnetic, De La Soul, Handsome Boy, "Psychoanalysis", Gravediggaz, "Prince Among Thieves" fanboy action.
Avatar 12:55pm
Jshatan:

Wow - good look, PKNY. No instrumental credits on the Barry White vinyl I have, although I do note the Tom Brock gets some songwriting credits.
  12:55pm
Cecile:

I SENT YOU A PRESENT A LONG TIME AGO.
Avatar 12:56pm
Jshatan:

I hung with Prince Paul a little at MCA Day this past weekend - extremely nice guy and his DJ set was an awesome tribute to Adam Yauch. He did reveal, however, that his favorite Beastie Boys song was Cooky Puss!
Avatar 12:57pm
PKNY:

@Jshatan - for some reason, it makes complete sense that "Cooky Puss" is Paul's fav.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Kat in Chicago:

Haha, the inimitable Theo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Passaic River Blues:

@Jshatan: That is great and, as PKNY noted, somehow that makes a lot of sense.
Avatar 12:59pm
KRYPT:

@Jshatan, I know, "Cookie Puss" is one of my fav Beastie cuts too.

Now I want to eat a Cookie Puss...best ice cream cake ever!

Someone deliver Carvel to Duane when Prince Paul is in the studio!
Avatar 1:05pm
Jshatan:

I just read the Modern Drummer interview with Ed Greene (from 1980 BTW) and this paragraph says it all: "Things soured, however, when White continuously refused to put his player’s names on his albums."
Avatar 1:06pm
PKNY:

@jshatan: closest Carvel to JC appears to be in Bayonne!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm
JtotheK:

Duane, will you ask Paul "How many fibers are intertwined in a Shredded Wheat biscuit?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
Passaic River Blues:

Berimbau game is strong with this one.
Avatar 1:08pm
PKNY:

Hopefull they'll be talk of "Pyschoanalysis" when Paul is there. As much as I love "Stakes is High", I almost consider that the true follow-up to "Bulhoone Mindstate".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm
JtotheK:

Also, if you could please discuss at length who decided on the Al Hirt Harlem Hendoo sample for Ego Trippin...and therefore decided there was 1 "cool" Al Hirt record for all of us to find and listen to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
Passaic River Blues:

@PKNY: Prince Paul is the greatest hip hop "skit"/radio drama producer of all time. Sir Jinx/Pooh's work on Ice Cube's "Death Certificate" is another standout but, from De La to horrorcore Gravediggaz and Horror City to "Psychoanalysis", Prince Paul is unmatched.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
JtotheK:

@Little Danny - do you have monster Al Hirt 45 'honey pot'?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm
Michael 98145:

loving this track -
Avatar 1:15pm
PKNY:

@PRB - Paul is easily in my top 5 hiphop producers ever. The stuff that was on the B-sides of De La singles is better than most groups' best known tracks.
Avatar 1:18pm
Jshatan:

Yes, PKNY, but will they deliver from Bayonne??
Avatar 1:20pm
PKNY:

Don't think Carvel does delivery...could be a contest for Duane: anybody willing to drive to Bayonne, pick up a CP and deliver it to FMU gets to have dessert time with Paul.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm
Michael 98145:

don't you just love it when they speak french ?
