After being told that he would need surgury to avoid sepsis according to his girlfriend "He told the doctors that he didn't think he'd wake up if he had the surgery," she said. "So he told them, 'I've had my adventures and my escapades and have lived a full, wonderful life and want to go home to be with my babies (his dogs).'

Hi All! So yes, Mike Hudson is gone, and at some point I need to dig out his Peer Pressure session for an encore presentation! Rick Brown of the Proletariat on at 1pm, stay tuned! THANKS FOR BEING HERE, ALL OF YOU EVEN IF IT's FOR 1 MINUTE! xo

Avatar 12:43pm

I thought the doctors also told him that they found he had colon cancer, so he would have had to undergo some aggressive treatment after the sepsis recovery- and the description I read was not good.

Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Diane and company. Hoping this turns out to be a good day.
Speaking of health stuff, how are you doing, Cecile? Throat situation getting better?
Avatar 12:47pm
Cecile:

Yeah, but sometimes the initial diagnosis can be off. I had my bout with globus effect (painful pointy lump in my throat) diagnosed as a potential calcified carotid artery and a broken voicebox until at various times until finally I found out it was acid reflux. I know I can't know under HIPPA regulations, but I'd like to know how thorough they were.
Avatar 12:49pm
Cecile:

Ken, it's been good. But I can't drink Bloody Marys and coffee in the same day. And if I eat red sauce spaghetti, I have to lay off sour and spicy. But it's 98% back to what it used to be.
  12:50pm
Don S:

The Proletariat were the first of the Boston hardcore bands I got to see. I was in Boston and saw them at the Rat on a random weeknight. The were always one of my favorites. They didn't play out too often but saw them several times, including with Husker Du at Mavericks in '83. Legendary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
chris:

colon cancer is easily screened/diagnosed with a fecal immunochemical test (FIT)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
chris:

acid reflux is horrible and painful. sorry, Cecile.
Avatar 12:54pm
Cecile:

It's mostly gone. thanks Chris. I had an elimination diet that was a chore, but it was just for 3 months. It was just a horribly annoying minor thing.

Well, that's good to know Chris.
Avatar 12:54pm
Cheri Pi:

for the last 15 years I too have had acid reflux, I pop a pill everyday, somedays I pop 2. It's worth it because I'd rather eat hot peppers, curries, caffeine, than go without, I'm willing to risk the pill's side effects to which there are none thankfully (yet)
Avatar 12:55pm
Cheri Pi:

And always sleep on your left side if you have the reflux! Total game changer
Avatar 12:56pm
Cecile:

I had to do two courses of generic Prilosec this year, but it seems to have taken. As long as I don't eat late at night, and avoid piling acid on acid, it's good.
Avatar 12:56pm
Chris from DC:

Bummed out I have to miss the Proletariat down here tomorrow, but looking forward to Peer Pressure.
  1:00pm

Damn, I didn't realize at first The Proletariat was one of the bands on This is Boston not L.A., I'm hyped now !

Questions:
How many copies of Gang of Four's Entertainment have you worn out?
Do you have any Gerard Cosloy storiee?
Did you go over better with regular rock audiences or hardcore shows?

Cecile:

Hardcore drove out a lot of people including women. There, I said it.
Avatar 1:17pm
Wild Neil:

@Cecile-what exactly IS "hardcore". Hardcore punk with hard-driving almost heavy metal music to it?
Avatar 1:19pm
Cecile:

it started as super fast, punishing, but almost with a lightness to it. Then metal came in and it got thicker, dumber, more abrasive.
MY OPINION!
Avatar 1:19pm
Cecile:

it was also a lot more purist than metal or punk.
Avatar 1:20pm
Wild Neil:

@Cecile-who is the best hardcore band when it started iyo?
Avatar 1:21pm
Cecile:

wow, there are so many. The best is probably Bad Brains. My personal favorites are Really Red and Die Kreuzen.
Avatar 1:22pm
Wild Neil:

Black Flag? I have heard Bad Brains a few times. Reggae punk I think.
Avatar 1:22pm
Chris from DC:

Yeah!!!
Avatar 1:22pm
Cecile:

But you can never go wrong with Minor Threat. Black Flag.
They did some reggae stuff, but they are credited with inventing it.
Avatar 1:23pm
Cecile:

But I really not an expert on it. I wasn't in a band, and I'm not a hardcore record collector.
Avatar 1:23pm
Diane Kamikaze:

It totally depends on which era Bad Brains you heard. Cecile! My absolute faves as well. :)
