hey, dennis - meant to give condolences to you and the guys....figure you are tired of hearing it, but.. there it is.

tdk - i remember reading about how the searchers double-tracked six string guitars as they didn't have a 12-'er in the beginning - but got one later

Thanks much Clarke, it means a lot. TD60 - probably?
  11:50am

As a long time fan of the Searchers I was excited to see the Searchers were to be opening for the B.52's on their first trip to London in '79.

Big disappointment when for sickness or some reason they were replaced by the Troggs. Big disappointment! The B.52's were great though! Thanks for a great show Michael.

Advertising like Hollywood is overly self aware. It is as if you are invited into their workplace and they expect you to read into their message through their own eyes. This does result in an audience that is distant and removed, question their own relevance. Another reason to go cold turkey on the tube.

jim - there are some reunion shows on the utube, as well, to varying degrees of good'ness.
  12:40pm
Dennis Diken:

The Searchers covers were so well-chosen, it was as if they were their own. They reinvented The Drifters' "I Don't Want To Go On Without You," Jimmy Hughes' "Goodbye My Love," Barbara Lewis' "Someday We're Gonna Love Again, The Orlons' "Don't Throw Your Love Away," Ruby & The Romantics' "Does He Really Care For Me," etc. Kinda genius, in its way.
  12:42pm
clarke:

DD - i am not so down on covers from the past - although i am wearing thin on those as well.. my problem is that someone clicked a switch where it is 'okay' to put out a covers album rather than write and record NEW material!!
  12:43pm
DG:

Jones never says why McCartney was such a bad player, and he also says the Beatles were all awful musically (guess he never heard Harrison's guitar playing...and I guess their compositional skills don't factor into anything). He's either a jazz snob, or heard so little of their recorded output (or heard it & forgot it) that he's just going by that...I find it amazing the blind spots that some artists/creators have. A lot of the stuff in that interview is crazy, anyway....so it's age, or dementia, or something. I wonder if Jones told Paul how awful he was when he produced "The Girl is Mine" (which is pretty awful too).
  12:43pm
clarke:

it's like: why are you spending valuable time not writing?
  12:44pm

and then, it also brings up the point of writer's block and/or laziness
