Wait a minute -- is this Television's Richard Lloyd? If so, why didn't he take up the vocals? Tom Verlaine sucked at singing.

And John Lydon gets so stressed when he can't remember the words on The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle. Dude, you're supposed to make up your own words, if the song means anything to you.

Wow, I grew up with this tune. I think my father saw him at a club and bought the record. After my parents divorced, it was one of the few records that remained that I liked. Miles Davis liked it too.
  4:47am
markr:

I understand Miles explicitly instructed Red Garland to play more like Ahmad Jamal, which must be terribly frustrating for a musician.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49am

So good. Thank you, Mark.

I enjoyed hearing it...

That Jamal was a lovely companion to this slightly sleety, slightly blustery post-dream/ pre-dawn stroll.

Ah yes, I see now the slight precipitation that may or may not be the harbinger of worse weather...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57am

We had a lot of the usual '50s and '60s soundtrack recordings around when I was a kid, but the records I remember hearing over and over again were Johnny Mathis, from my mom, and June Christy, from my dad. Says something, doesn't it? There was also a busted Charlie Byrd record that my mom threw at my dad. ;-)

The Ahmad Jamal was the one that I listened to over and again.

I suspect that if I had been exposed to Miles doing "If i I Were A Bell", I would be even more addicted to that than I am now.

Johnny Mathis is coming to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center soon--how old is he, anyway?

Johnny Mathis' taste in music, shopping at Amoeba. Pretty interesting: m.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21am
pacific standard simon:

Can't say which Phil Dick book is my favorite, since it's been a couple decades or more since I've read any of them. I know it's not Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep, because I re-read it after Blade Runner, and liked the movie better. I might agree with you, Scraps, or I might go with Ubik. I do know that I've kept all that I've owned in the hope of rereading.

Wait, I did re-read Eye In The Sky. That was great.

Yeah, don't know why we don't seem to have many of their albums in our library, TDK--I think they're great.

Ubik is great, and a little bit weird for a Dick book because it’s funny, not usually a strength for him.

Now I have to re-read Ubik, because I'm sorta convinced that it was the first Dick novel that influenced a movie: the Carpenter and O'Bannon Dark Star
