Hello Duane. (Survived Ken's show partially mentally intact.) Don't know if it's bad form to talk about other shows. Must check my WFMU Etiquette Brochure.

Wow, a remix of a classic. Still have the 'Songs in the Key of Life' LP. Sadly, I recall this day then, was in H.S. and outraged.

April 4, 1967 -
"I am convinced that if we are to get on the right side of the world revolution, we as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values. We must rapidly begin the shift from a “thing-oriented” society to a “person-oriented” society. When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, materialism, and militarism are incapable of being conquered." mlk50.org...

I think MLK would be surprised at the lack of progressive transformation here, this country. Half a century, geez.

@TDK - Yes, and certainly the backwards direction the country has taken over the last 15 months.

Got to hear MLK speak on April 15, 1967. We marched from the Sheep Meadow down to the UN, against Vietnam War. The day looked the same as today, gray-cloudy. Heard MLK's speech, crowd too big to see. Also Stokely Carmichael, others, spoke. I was 15.

Thank you so much, Duane. Martin Luther King, Jr is definitely a hero of mine. As are the marchers on Selma and the kids at the Woolworth counter. I think about them a lot. They stood up for my rights and freedoms more than anyone else.

@Ken: WVKR! I think that's the Fingers Inc. remix. When I was in high school, there was a VKR DJ who used to mix up long outtakes of dialogue from "Roots" and intersperse great stuff, like La Funk Mob, Silver Apples, fuzzy hip hop instrumentals. It was beautiful.

Regarding the MLK pistol: a quick internet search revealed that after his house was bombed he applied for concealed carry, but he was turned down by the police because he was black.
