Late addition but thank you for the Rod McKuen feature. Back in the day I found his recordings and books too intolerably middlebrow and sentimental pandering lacking meaningful content. I had missed the humorous aspect of some of it (though the humor may only be available in retrospect). Perhaps us cultural elitists would have been less incensed if his arrangers were more creative.
Whatever, his work was undoubtedly a significant part of the 60s to 70s pop culture.
