"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

I haven't heard of the "potato in the exhaust" trick in a long time. My favorite , non - malicious old timey trick is, to fix a leaky radiator, pour in course ground black pepper. I have done it and it works very well. Another one is to pour oat meal into a manual transmission to temporarily quiet it down. Folks would do this to sell a car with a funky transmission.

Hubig Pie:

How is oatmeal inserted into a transmission case ?

Heya JA and PZ. Thanks for the electric piano. Sounds like a Fender Rhodes ...

SSS:

@ - Hubig Pie - I don't know, other than the tube where transmission or what ever lube is poured in. It is something my father told me folks used to do, so it was from the thirties and fourties I guess. The black pepper trick is what was done before the liquid styuff with copper powder / flakes was uinvented. I have done it and it works incredibly well, and is better then the modern stuff because, instead of coating the entier inside of the radiator, thereby making it have a smaller tube I.D., just one piece of pepper gets stuck in the hole, acting as a cork.

Huh, listener Lyle must be busy out on the road. He drops in occasionally with tales of intrigue from his experiences as a touring trombone player. Probably doesn't want to hog the spotlight, either.

The Oscar:

Been busy working, but what was the track playing just now as Peter started his performance? I heard it playing in a bookstore maybe six months ago and meant to try to track it down, but never knew how to find it beyond hoping someone at FMU would eventually play it-- and it worked! (Also great interview/performance!)

Carmichael:

Sounds like Charlie Brown's teacher is in the band.

Hubig Pie:

@SSS, yeah , I"ve never added any fluids to a manual transmission so have no idea how that could be done

That reminds me ... I need to get at the shifter in my car and grease the works. It's getting dry and squeaks when I slide it into gear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am
SSS:

@ - Hubig, now that I think about it, that is something I have only rarely needed, and it is something I have a shop do because I think there is a screw plug one needs to access right on the case. Drag to do without a lift. When I was younger I was a motor head, but things have changed.
Avatar 11:27am
Hubig Pie:

SSS, transmission work is not very DIY
