Andrew, just picked up on this Playback special. As you mentioned, 'What A Way To go' is just sublime. You just drift away on those final notes.
Bought Playback around 69/70 over here. It still stands the test of time.
I think that the first trick was to get jazz musicians playing so the music is tight.
Then John Boylan already an embryo engineer/producer who loved playing with flanging/phasing and other studio techniques.
Then top notch songs from both the brothers & some playful ideas.
I did get to heat Boona's album some years later & the eventual followup. His record label called Spinnaker seemed appropriately named.
You mention at 7.45 a musician. I am guessing that it might be Pat Campbell-Lyons. Loved their early albums, bought the Pentecost Hotel single around Oct '68.
Ah well back to reality, love what you do.
