Good Saturday morning, Jeffrey. Always love this show but extra thanks today! It’s keeping me from getting too frazzled in the next few hours before my friends arrive to help me move.

Good morning Really Lisa. Glad you're on board. Good luck with the move. Hard for it not to be stressful, but friends that will help you with that are like gold. There was a period when I moved a lot, and I was always grateful for the help.

Good morning to you too, Sem, and Heidee. Hope all is as well as can be.
Thanks for the good wishes, Jeffrey. That’s me. I tend to move to get closer to contract jobs. Every few years. This time it’s also to have a bit of a fresh start. I’m lucky for sure, two good people stepping up with pickup trucks. This is the first time I don’t have to rent a box truck.

Good morning and end-of-August greetings, Jeffrey and Planeteers. I love these plaintive ballads, especially I Guess He’d Rather.... My theory is that any song with Colorado in the title is a good one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41am
Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Ted in Montclair! The song you reference is from a 1970 album, when a lot of hippies were either moving to Colorado, Vermont or other rural destinations, or singing about it!
Avatar 7:42am
Heidee:

@deborah, yes, hopefully all goes well with teaching, numbers are rising again in Germany with the post-holiday madness. Yes, monitoring your energies is important, sometimes less is more.
I am better, nearly well, but won't hold my breath.
Back to school mid-September (here is the snag, nematomorpha!), but will be assigned for homeschooling, which is a relief.
Avatar 7:43am
deborah:

@Ted in Montclair: There is Judy Collins epic, Colorado. Still holds images of the 1970s and the feeling of going that Jeffrey speaks of. Thinking about Tom Rush's Urge for Going which fits too.

@Heidee, Ah, if it was that easy where I teach. Three hour Canvas presence continued interaction with students and more faculty meetings than I have ever experienced. Classroom teaching was easier but it is not an option for the upcoming academic year, probably.

Ted in Montclair:

@Deborah — thanks. Are you referring to Someday Soon, one of my all-time favorites? I love Urge for Going, anything with that high lonesome feeling. Such as Across the Great Divide by Kate Wolf, and West by Lucinda Williams.
Avatar 8:10am
deborah:

@TDK60: Not sure. There are versions on a couple of albums including her new one, Winter Stories, with Jonas Feld collaborating.
Avatar 8:10am
Fredericks:

Hello, Jeffrey and Planet People.

This "Same Old Stagolee" is the most I heard of Steve in one of Justin's performances.
Avatar 8:12am
deborah:

@Ted in Montclair Someday Soon is a different song. Love the feeling Tom Rush's music evoked, Urge for Going, No Regrets etc. Never heard West, will look it up. Oh, Justin Townes Earle evokes similar feelings.
Avatar 8:12am
Fredericks:

Jeffrey, quite a while back, you played a great song by Good Luck Mountain, you don't happen to recall which song that was, do you?
Avatar 8:15am
TDK60:

Deborah, I recall when Rush's 'Urge' came out (probably played on WFMU, WBAI, etc.). I think he was the first to popularize a Joni Mitchell tune.
  8:16am
Ted in Montclair:

@Deborah — I think you’re referring to The Blizzard, from a quick YouTube search. Rest In Peace Justin Townes Earle.

So, Ted in Montclair, Deborah we found that that song is "The Blizzard" by J. Collins off her "Fire of Eden" album, 2013. Supposedly an epic tune.

Seems appropriate play more Townes Van Zandt, not that I need any encouragement. One of the very greatest. Here's a quote from his NY Times obit, though...“My mother hated Townes Van Zandt,” Mr. Earle told Rolling Stone in 2019, “because of the trouble that Dad and him got into.”

@TDK60: You are so right! It is The Blizzard and it is a story. It deserves a listen, at least. You are right about Urge being played on WFMU and WBAI and the late Pete Fornatale's Campus Caravan, later becoming Mixed Bag. I certainly played it frequently on WFMU, along with most of the songs on that album.
