Good morning Sem and Lisa! Yes, looking like a nice weekend. Weekend: a film by Godard, and an outmoded concept to millions (not everyone...I get it...)

city 3: sounds good! In a lot of ways, it does seem crazier but since I've been around it has also seemed like humanity was somehow going to turn a corner and become more civilized and all of that! I guess the jury is still out.

Jeffery....I agree...The 60's seemed like the end was imminent to me as a young teen. Then somehow it got better. Now with the prevalence of the web and the shrinking of our planet ( a little plug there) it's too easy for polarization to happen. I worry for my sons and those of new generations. If i was a religious type, I'd be spending a lot of time in churches. Instead I sit and walk in nature and hope.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32am

Mike! Nice to have you here. I miss seeing you, and I also miss doing live sessions.

These selections you're playing is helping me find a sweet spot in my head, especially with my headphones on. Thanks again and have a wonderful weekend...everyone.
Avatar 6:35am
Really Lisa:

Agree, Sylvia about the difficulty. Early into this, chatted to friends and colleagues, that living on my own, I thought I’d be better able to handle it. Wrong. This is not by choice. Stay safe and be well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36am
Jeffrey Davison:

city 3: agreed. What we have with the internet reminds me of something I once heard about money: a wonderful servant and a terrible master. When we give over our power to it, the web can be awful. I do need to get out into the country, and also start going again to museums and galleries. I always found redemption in art (and of course I include music!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40am
Jeffrey Davison:

Lisa, I hear you also. I have housemates but it's still a pretty solitary existence, as they tend to be busy, and of course these times spent with people, while we're distancing, are strange by definition. Early on, it was being said that we'd be through this, or the worst of it, by summertime, and now that the pandemic stretches on, it's not easy to stay upbeat.
Avatar 6:41am
city 3:

Spot on Jeffery.....We spent some time yesterday in a little gallery (the only one near us) and it was a nice diversion. Wish we were closer to some major stuff.

Roadside Picnic:

Morning Jeffrey and planeteers. Sad to hear of the passing Joe Ruby the legendary animator of Scooby Doo. Probably the best dog in the world was and is Scooby :) Difficult times ahead for sure and connections between people can be so fragile during lock downs or partial lock downs. not to mention fears of job losses . Personally I think some type of universal basic income and affordable housing is needed .

Agree, Roadside Picnic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50am
Jeffrey Davison:

Sylvia: thanks for that. I will check that out later.
Roadside Picnic: ah, I didn't hear about Joe Ruby. Legendary cartoon, for sure. And to your point about the current situation, I tend to be pessimistic, but it does seem like it's going to get worse before it gets better. Universal basic income seems a worthy idea, especially in light of the fact that the economy seems to be shifting in profound ways.

@Lisa @6:21+6:35, @Lisa @6:25 - I hear you, girls. This isolation does something to us, to our personalities. Maybe we will have to learn how to love again. Loving oneself as well is very important, being exposed to the one body/mind/soul at close, we'd better look after them. Real love gives and does not demand. Oh yeah, and being philosophical, another side-effect. :-)

Good Morning Everyone!
Agree that existence is mostly solitary now, except for somewhat perfunctory chats with other dwellers in this small building made up entirely of old studio apartments. We are all used to or learning to live alone so sometimes chatting seems so labored. Spent a few socially distanced hours with a good friend yesterday, dining outside, and walking around Montclair. others were doing the same and it seemed somewhat normal but it was an illusion, of course.

Deborah, good morning! Even though it seems illusory (and what isn't!), it nevertheless indicates real effort. These small efforts can sometimes seem so paltry or even in vain, but they have real effects that we don't always notice in the moment. Keep on keeping on.

@Jeffrey, thanks to your music, I do. I don't know how you do it, you always seem to hit the right chord. In its literal sense.
@Deborah (with the grown-up D, I like it), it is the teaching. Or rather, dealing with unqualified demands from parents or colleagues and when addressed, no response. Energy suckers, that's what I think. Lisa, I just see empathy. OK, I can deal with stupidity. Not so well with social stupidity.

@Debororah: I taught at CUNY-Hunter College in my 20s for 3 years. I was easy going yet hard-ass ass professor (that was on purpose). I failed some students. I feel bad in retrospect, (admin intervened), but I offered so much EC, that I had many students finish above 100% (mostly geography and music trivia)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30am

Some people over the years said that I would be a good teacher, but first I would have had to learn something well enough to teach! Interesting tales of teaching on the comments board this morning...and Hunter is a good school, somewhat marred by their administration, I believe.
