I meant to say 90.9 upstate. It's 91.9 FM in NYC and Rockland Co.

Jeff, Colchester is a town in Delaware County. We have no Colchester County. But I agree it is a beautiful area.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06am
Jeffrey Davison:

James, I am full of misinformation this morning. I was in Delaware County, and I think within the town of Colchester. I mixed that up! And in the Hudson Valley we broadcast at 90.1. Thanks!
  7:08am
Cooh John:

Good morning Jeffrey, Ruth, and planeteers. Time to start my day with this wonderful soundtrack to shrink all things negative and expand all things positive.
  7:09am
ignatatus666:

The areas of the FM vary. Westchester north west is 91.9
I rarely get a 91.9 signal in NYC
West side Manhattan from the boat basin north nothing works along Henry Hudson nor the Saw Mill until you get past Valhalla. 90.1 works great out by Warwick NY so I imagine it’s great in North Jersey
91.1 is good in orange near the river
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09am
Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Cooh John! We can certainly try!

90.9 is SUPPOSED to cover Manhattan and Rockland County, 91.1 for north Jersey, although not always great. When at home I always use wfmu.org as I'm doing now. Jeffrey, absolutely GORGEOUS music you're playing this morning.

Thanks Aaron!
  7:33am
ignatatus666:

@MarkR
My base is Peekskill NY so predominantly I listen on 91.9 . We are very close to the Rockland tower. Our problem up this way is the tower for 100.7 WHUD (Blech) as it’s in our back yard. That tower screws up signals like you wouldn’t believe. One night they were stepping on 3 stations at different spots of the FM dial. The FCC should be more concerned about that then anything else on the air.
  7:34am
Mark R:

You know--when you do the station ID at the top of the hour..."...in New York City and Rockland County at 90.9 FM blah blah blah." I'll probably remember that on my deathbed. Totally get it, Ignatius, there are parts of Brooklyn where our signal occasionally gets blown out by a pirate station over there. You can't do much about it in your car, but at home I listen online--now interference, no crackle, no snaps, no pops.
  7:35am
ignatatus666:

Jeffrey today’s show will definitely be played several times this week.

Thanks to ignatatus666 and Mark R for all the info. Yes, in my car it can sometimes be frustrating, as in the case of getting interference from other stations, including pirate stations. There are places where FMU used to come in pretty good where it's now more iffy, but on the flip side there are lots more places where it's possible to hear the station.

TDK60:

Dear DJ, do I detect a note of cynicism there? Hee. Of course the real fraud in "voter fraud" is the mendacity in spreading such a lie. Voter fraud is so rare as to be not worth even discussing. Voter suppression however is a real and widespread problem across these so-called democratic United States.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05am

Thanks to pledgers Robert, and Michael, both from Jersey City! Thanks for supporting what we do. Robert: I've been on FMU since 1991. I can't recall when this show transitioned out of being strictly a folkie show, but it was a while ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16am
Jeffrey Davison:

TDK60: For sure, this crap about supposed voter fraud pales in comparison to actual voter suppression, a very real and ongoing thing. Lots of examples. The harping on this by Orange Baby is so much more destructive than a handful of actual fraud cases and those of human error.

Roadside Picnic:

I think apathy used to be the ace in the pack particularly for large established parties. younger less affluent been less inclined to vote-for various reasons- maybe in future allowing a secure app for digital voting would improve participation and the validity of the outcome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20am
Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Roadside Picnic! Lots to be done. Not sure about an app, but even something like allowing early votes to be tabulated before election day, to facilitate a quicker result, would be good. Seems like the standards for a federal election should be the same throughout the USA, but not sure what issues arise in trying to bring that about. Automatic registration at DMV seems like a good idea also, and registration closer to Election Day throughout the country. Also, Election Day should be a federal holiday. And electoral college, anyone?

Roadside Picnic:

@Jeffrey Davidson, yes I agree that some type of automatic voter registration-with an opt out-rather than hurdles to register. I live in Scotland where voting is tied in to having a permanent address (thats a UK wide thing and always been so)-maybe excludes or deters a lot of folks. And yes an app that could be trusted still some ways off but not impossible .
Avatar 8:33am
Heidee:

And so the sad fiddle comes on, expressing my feelings in that phone call having to deal with a very awkward narcissistic person the other day (Deborah: a parent of a student). The experience is still haunting me. I need to stop soaking up other people's fucked up emotions.
Avatar 8:34am
Deborah:

I will be dropping my ballot off Monday, trusting the designated ballot box at the area municipal building. Did anyone see the Oct. 18 New York Times Special Section by the Editorial Board condemning that bloviating buffoon on economic, moral, fiscal, and philosophical counts? Not wanting to sound NPR-like, but it is an important read and if you were not ready to vote Blue, you most likely would be after reading.
Yes, agree that election day should be a Federal holiday. I am always surprised when it is not. When I worked on newspapers, it was tough to just leave and vote. I have let classes out early and urged students who could vote to do so. And that electoral college has to go! This is not a country of old white men anymore!
Avatar 8:34am
YETI BOB:

Let's eliminate the Electoral College, and while we're at it, let's rethink this Senate thing...
Avatar 8:35am
TDK60:

If this country (U$A) wanted to, we could make sure everyone gets to vote, and on a national holiday. We have an outdated constitution, and the "electoral college" should go. Democracy is very pseudo here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36am
Jeffrey Davison:

Heidee: sorry to hear. I can't really imagine where part of my job would consist of having to deal with the needs of so many people, without taking too much of it in...
Avatar 8:36am
YETI BOB:

@Deborah: It doesn't even have to be about "white men" (I am one). It could just be about "fair representation" and "one vote per person".

Avatar 8:39am
Deborah:

@Heidee;
Oh, I am so sorry! You get the parents and I get raging students. It is midterm time and emails and phone calls range from sad to accusatory. They are upsetting but not as much as they used to be. As teachers, we might be naturally empathic and process other people's emotions while those others suck our energy (qi suckers). I can feel it sometimes.
I hope the parent phone rant resolved somewhat positively ad if it continues, try to detach from the words of the parent.
And it is temporary. The wretched family will move on.

Good morning Yeti Bob of Chicago. I saw a sentence that made me think the other day. Wyoming with 570,000 people has 2 senators as does California with 39 million.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41am

Good Morning Jeffery

Avatar 8:42am
Deborah:

@Yeti Bob, Of course! I am a white woman who will be 70 very soon. Still, I haven't lost my rage! Anyway, looking from the historical standpoint and composition of the electoral college (should be capitalized but I can't), it is composed that way. Agree about fair representation. It should be the vote. Period. No electoral college of any kind.

@Heidee So, this is the last weekend of my compressed Business Communications online class; seven weeks to do 15 weeks of work. I have to grade hundreds of responses of a class of 23. Students are resubmitting, emailing, demanding, and begging. I am so over it, as they might say! Then, post grades, and the onslaught will begin.
After this, only two courses remain.
And so it goes.

What do you mean sending her home like that, half naked?
Do you realize she'll probably end up with pneumonia on account of you?
Is this the sort of thing we pay taxes for - to have teachers...to have teachers like you?
Stupid, silly, careless people who send our kids home without any clothes on?
You know, maybe my kids aren't the best-dressed kids, and maybe they don't have any decent clothes..."

Avatar 8:52am
YETI BOB:

@TDK60: That's exactly my issue with the Senate - when it was established we didn't have such a disparity between big states with major urban areas and the sparsely-populated West - none of that existed at all. The California:Wyoming ratio is the most extreme case, it works out to 67:1. But it's true for people in any of the big cities. As a citizen of Illinois I feel like I'm being held hostage by people from Kentucky (3:1 ratio), and they are to blame for *itch McConnell.

@Deborah: I'm a pretty dedicated Socialiast (I'm voting for Joe) and I believe that all the strife between men and women, and between white, black, etc, gets in the way of the needed Socialist overthrow of the repressive hypercapitalist power structure. Brothers, Sisters, Black, White, UNITE!
