Update on my WFMU radio show Transpacific Sound Paradise for tonight:
In addition to doing a whole bunch of APAP showcase giveways and playing music by many of the artists who are coming to town, we'll also hear a large portion of Ukrainian phenomenon Dakha Brakha's exhilarating US debut concert. They played to a packed CUNY / Elebash Hall in NY on Sept 19.
DakhaBrakha returns to New York to perform on Sunday Jan 12 as part of the annual twelve-artist three-stage Globalfest world music showcase concert at Webster Hall in lower Manhattan. They're also playing Monday night Jan 13 at Le Poisson Rouge as part of Eye For Talent's APAP Showcase.
Starting mid-week the APAP arts presenters' conference brings lots of World Musicky artists to NYC to showcase. Globalfest is the highest profile - but there are also excellent multi-artist shows at many other venues including Drom (Thurs-Sat Jan 9-11), SOBs (Mon Jan 13), Le Poisson Rouge (Mon Jan 13) and Alwan for the Arts (Fri Jan 10). Stay tuned: I'll be giving away tickets to several of those big showcase concerts on tonight's show.
Tune in to WFMU tonight at 6 to get in the running for tickets. I'll be posting the specific giveaway info and instructions on how to enter around 6 pm on tonight's playlist page, http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/53889
