I need to find out who wrote Mel Tillis' "Gates of Eden" ripoff.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:16am WilliamfromDumont:

Good morning Bob and fellow Brainenites. Love that version of Mental Revenge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Uncle Michael:

Huh. Waylon wrote it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am Uncle Michael:

Oh. This is funny. The last person to play it on a show...*me*.

That's hilarious, UM.
Good morning all
  9:24am Trash Boat:

So Frank Zappaish. I love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am melinda:

That Stone Poneys song was great.
  9:50am RHenderson:

Much as it's a revelation hearing Linda Ronstadt's voice as a component of the Stone Poneys harmony blend, I am reminded that she briefly dated the author of their hit single, one Michael Nesmith. Who, as Michael Shelley will attest, was and is pretentious unto being nuts, despite having made several nice RCA solo LP's.
  9:54am Katy:

what does "orch. overdubs' mean? Was this track recorded separate from the vocals?
  9:59am RHenderson:

Wow! A TV mix of "Village Green"! Which shows both Ray's wonderful arrangement of the song and the sonic limitations of the Kinks having to record in the studio owned by their label (Pye). Though many claim that The Kinks lost it to a degree in the jump from 4 track to 16 track when they built their own facility.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:01am WilliamfromDumont:

I thought "Village Green"(the song) was recorded a few years prior to the rest of the album.
  10:12am RHenderson:

Interesting to hear B. Sparks sounding - vocally - so much like Big Star. Never thought of Alex Chilton as an influence on that band.
10:13am David in ATL from NJ:

Hey, is this a FANTASTIC song or what???
  10:18am RHenderson:

In the terrific 33 1/3 book about 'VGPS' the song "Village Green" is described by Ray Davies as having been recorded 18 months before the rest of the album. Turns out a guy named David Whitaker did the orch arrangement. Nicky Hopkins played the harpsichord (yes!).
  10:24am SeanG:

great stuff dude!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:27am WilliamfromDumont:

Doubt it's in print, but the Mystery Trend comp on Big Beat is a must.
10:31am David in ATL from NJ:

Sorry I tuned in just after that Kinks track. Can't wait for the archive to show up so I can get into it.

I love these old "lost" Kinks tracks you are playing, Bob. Don't stop, please.
  10:32am Todd Ellenberg:

Hall & Oates "War Babies" -- didn't hear you ID it, but was wondering who it was! No blue-eyed soul there -- brought back memories of them opening for Lou Reed at Capitol Theatre in Passaic.
  10:46am SeanG:

P.J.!
  10:58am lloyd michigan:

Bullmoose Jackson & His Buffalo Bearcats. Best band name ever. Even greater than Kathleen Turner Overdrive.
