I saw Robin Hitchcock do a solo set at Ameoba Records in Hollywood. Before Covid, they had free shows every week. All that came to a grinding halt, then the store moved to a new location and I've never been back.

This takes me back to 1969. Some bikers who lives down the street had a GMC panel truck with an Ampex four track. They would throw the doors open and we would listen to this over and over again.

I will say this, a girl in my drawing class and I saw the premier of the Bongo Fury band at Harvey Mudd College in Clairmont in 1975. Don and Frank were on good terms that night and it was whacky to the power of ten.

Coconuts and ryebread: Same girl - Mary Ann Shiltz and I saw The Legion of Mary, Jerry Garcia's band at The Fox Venice a couple of months later.

That was fun for teens back then.

i'm fuzzy on details, but remember reading a large zappa biography. indicated fz was sometimes lending a hand to beefheart productions. fz was a manipulator of his own bands, but i read that beefheart was some kind of psychotic, insisting the band live together and i think he was like starving them and dealing out psychological abuse to them.

did see trad gras at tonic, most of band were in their 70's and they rocked, i think conceptually they placed psych rock as just another type of folk music, it felt that way
